Re: Frequently asked Questions - deleting your own post

Deleting your own posts

There are two setting that interact here.

Members have permission to delete their own messages.
Members do not have permission to remove their own topic - this is so that you can't remove a whole discussion including other peoples messages.

Result is you can remove your own messages with the exception of the first in a topic.   You can still delete the content of the first message.

If you think a topic like this needs to be removed then the simplest way is to use the "report to moderator" link and ask for it to be removed.

You can also lock your own topic if you feel it is of no further use

Re: Frequently asked Questions - adding a link
« Reply #2 on: October 17, 2014, 11:08:29 AM »

Adding a link within a message
first enter some text that you want to make into a link:

eg Other squeezeboxes , or whatever

then highlight the text and click on the link icon third from the left above the emoticons, this will put tags round your link thus
Code: [Select]
Other squeezeboxes
then type in an "=" sign as shown:
Code: [Select]
Other squeezeboxes
then paste in your url after the "="
Code: [Select]
Other squeezeboxes
which will display as:

Other squeezeboxes

Re: Frequently asked Questions - Avatars
« Reply #4 on: October 17, 2014, 11:10:24 AM »

Avatars

Stage 1 - Create the avatar:
Maximum file size is 90 x 90 pixels.
File type jpg or png
Using an image editor crop your picture to remove excess background, then use save or export function to reduce to 90 x 90 pixels or less.

Stage 2 upload the file to your profile:

Click on Profile in the banner area
Select Forum Profile from the LHS menu

Go to Personalize Picture, select Upload an Avatar, then click Choose File and select your avatar's location on you computer

FAQ's: Reducing image size in Mac
« Reply #5 on: October 04, 2015, 09:09:56 AM »

I tried three times to post this yesterday without success, so I have attached only three photos. If you would like some more please let me know and I will try to post them. If anybody can tell me how to make them smaller on a Mac that would be great

Just use iPhoto or Photos.   Use the editing tools to crop the image if necessary, then use File>export click the little down arrow to reveal all the options select size>custom then enter the pixel width you want.   I usually select JPG, quality>medium size>800 and that gets the files size well below the melnet limit.

Shrinking the file size of photos
« Reply #6 on: April 04, 2019, 05:41:02 PM »

Shrinking the file size of photos

Individual files attached to posts are limited to 4 per post, maximum total size 512KB, maximum individual size 400KB.

Here are some suggestions to shrink your files so that they can be uploaded.

I use this:  http://www.shrinkpictures.com

Email the photo to yourself many email programs give you a choice of file size to send

On Mac the Photos app allows you to choose file size when you export a photo.  I'm sure other operatin g systems have something similar.  Please tell me and I'll add them here.
