3:2 hornpipes in a minor key
« on: April 09, 2009, 04:06:25 PM »

I'm in the process of trying to get my morris team (Boggart's Breakfast) to write a new dance using a 3:2 hornpipe.  As with nearly all our tunes I'm looking ideally for one in a minor key.  "If You Will Not Have Me, You May Let Me Go" is fab but can you suggest any others?  Preferably something that will sound good at a slower than normal speed so we can actually dance to it.

You could try " A Northern Frisk" - great tune although you may need to simplify it a bit - it has some good bits that would suit sticking. Another nice one is "Lads and Lasses". Both are in John of the Greeny Cheshire way. If you have a copy of "Northern Frisk" by Jamie Knowles then there's a nice simple melodeon friendly 3/2 called the "Hartshead Hornpipe". I can probably scan you a copy if you want ( after the Bank Holiday)
