Who is this?
« on: October 31, 2014, 03:26:30 PM »

I came across this, in my opinion, absolutely phenomenal player on You Tube the other day and I can't stop listening to him play. Unfortunately, there are only eight videos of his on You Tube and I so wish there were more! I don't know why but I have the impression that he must be a classically trained musician, probably a piano player, because of the way he plays his melodeon, (makes me think of Ukebert a bit), lots of chords and harmonies on the right hand.

He hasn't posted a new video on You Tube for four years but a few of them he recorded for melodeon.net Tune of the Month. There is so much I want to learn from this man's beautiful playing - anyone know who he is?

Surely he hasn't stopped playing and he plays two beautiful sounding Oakwood 3 rows too!

Every one of his videos are worth listening to, enjoy!

I think he's on Melnet as "jb". Last posted May this year. Yes, lovely playing and I like that kind of music.

Taking a slight liberty here but the information is all public, though I don't remember how I found this (originally some time ago) : http://www.york.ac.uk/economics/our-people/staff-profiles/john-bone/#teaching

I agree. Great playing. And the Princess Royal is very well done:

I remember one of his YouTube recordings featuring on here  year or two ago and really enjoyed hearing him, though I can't see me getting into klezmer just yet. Hope he carries on posting!

That's just shattered my mental image of jb. I imagined him as the shy and retiring, wealthy owner of a string of well known shopping center sports shops looking for an outlet for his creativity because plimsolls really weren't his thing!  ;D
