Bravo, Helena. Your playing has improved so much: a confident performance with a good steady tempo and a nicely expressed interpretation.  8)

Sorry if the above reads like a school report. Old habits die hard...

On the contrary Bob, it's great to get positive and constructive feedback on my playing, thanks.

Here is my favourite version of the song (the melody is played on a fiddle): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXcxKX4BvsA
Actually I like your version much more.

Just add my bit -
Georgy Girl - brill!
....and Pikey, I'm reliving some childhood memories with Skippy and particularly like Robin Hood!
( WWI songs are even before *my* childhood  ;D )

OK, OK so Lester beat me to it... 'tis only to be expected really  (:)

Here's my attempt at Albert Farmer's Bonfire Tune

For added bonus points this tune is both topical and local(ish) to me.

You've got a lovely lightness in the right hand, and a really steady tempo. (I recognise the influence of Ed Rennie in the twiddly bit  (:))

Émilie Benoit's waltz, a great French-Canadian song.

Here's the ABC:

Here it is in G instead of C

X:1
T:La Valse d'Émilie Benoît
C:trad.
M:3/4
L:1/8
K:Gmaj
c BA|:"G"G3 E DB,|D3B, DG|"C"E3C EG|
"G"D3F GA|"Em"B2d2dB|"Bm"d3B AG|"D"A2AG AB|
A3c BA|"G"G3 E DB,|D3B, DG|"C"E3C EG|
"G"D3F GA|"Em"B2d2dB|"C"c2"G"B2"D"A2|"G"G6|G3d ga|

"G"D3E GA|"Em"B2d2dB|"C"c2"G"B2"D"A2|"G"G6|G3c BA:|

Edited to add that I too enjoyed your playing of the tune more than the violin version, well played!

Macpherson's Rant

Never tried this on the box. Usually sing it while thrashing a cittern.

named after General Monck.

I love the old spelling. I'm truly unsure of historical accuracy, I suppose it all came from the melting pot of late Anglo-Saxon language throughout medieval history into modern times that leaves us with this lame duck language, crippled by Latin grammar with lots of little side galleries to explore, each one wackier than the last. It's a barmy language and yet it's the one that is adopted throughout the world. Good innit?

Well now my thumb hurts from playing this far too much over the weekend, but I've finally figured out Charlie's March (or Bonnie Prince Charlie's March, I think) from the Knock John CD by Andy Cutting & Chris Wood. It's not quite where I want it yet, but I figured I should upload the best recording I've managed before I go injuring myself playing it for another few hours each day :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4c6G6E6IlMM

It's such a fun tune to play! Definitely one of my favourites I've learnt.
