Clive's version of Mrs Hamilton is only half the tune.  This is the whole thing (from a later source, but there is hardly any difference between this and Nathaniel Gow's original):

Code: [Select]
X:13
T:Mrs Hamilton of Pitcaithland
S:Cameron's Violin Music
B:NLS Glen.63
M:2/4
L:1/16
Q:1/8=90 "Slow"

`f2 |e2g2`f2d2|c2`````e2       G2``E2 | F2(GA)  G2E2 |   C4-              C2:|

I first learned that way from the Edinburgh moothie player Iain Grant, who did it a bit slower than Clive.  That rocketing-up-to-high-C bit in the fourth part is what really makes it for me.

BTW there is another (rather naff) tune for the same lady:

Code: [Select]
X:2
T:Mrs Hamilton of Pencaitland
S:William Shepherd: A Collection of Strathspey Reels &c
B:NLS Glen.345(1)
N:copy inscribed to his brother the Rev John Shepherd, 13 June 1793
M:2/4
L:1/16
K:D
.F2.F2`.G2````.G2| efge     (dc).B.A|.F2.F2`.G2````.G2| ef/g/  ec Td4:|
Tfe`fg (fg/)a/ fd|(ef/g/) ec dA``FD |Tfe`fg (fg/a/) fd|(ef/g/) ec Td4:|

There is also a strathspey of the same period (Nathaniel Gow again, I think) for her husband.  Apparently they spent most of their marriage living in opposite wings of the house and never speaking to each other.  The bagpipe historian Pete Stewart lives in one of the outbuildings of the house, it hasn't changed much since Mrs Hamilton's time.

Unfortunately, Soundcloud will not allow me to add more tunes, or even to access my account. So here's a nice 3 part Australian waltz tune I posted to Soundcloud earlier....

Jack's Waltz, collected from Sally Sloane, a source of many great tunes and songs.

https://soundcloud.com/klappo/jacks-waltz

One of my favorites, and fun to play....

Enjoy!

This is a really nice recording. It makes the CF box sound intimate and warm, something I never achieve.

I would like to participate in TOTM for the first time. Here's a quebecois tune performed on my one row D melodeon.

Le reel de Gaspé (Gaspe Reel)
http://youtu.be/c_3_YeG9eL4
Gaspé is the name of a town located at the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula (Gaspésie) east of Quebec.

Sorry, no ABC.

The score is actually in 2/4 time. The 3/4 must be a misprint.............

Hi!
The 3/4 is not a misprint. The third part of this tune is played like that. This is a typical rythm of quebecois music that you can find in many tunes. La grande gigue simple (Red River Jig) here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi8oqSgV1yc is a good example of playing in 3/4.

Serge

Hi Serge,
The score IS in 2/4, and most of what you play IS in 2/4. Yes, in your playing there is perhaps a section of some other time signature, I couldn't quite decipher without spending more time with it, perhaps your 3/4. In writing  a music score though, such a time signature change should be indicated in the score if it's writtem for others to use, and not left to tradition to interpret.

Anyway, I had been admiring you playing on YouTube, especially your one-row mastery!

Thanks

Serge. Regardless of the tempo that is fantastic playing. I never knew that you could get such a huge sound out of something so small.  ;D

Hi

I'm sorry for this misunderstanding. I did not write this sheet music. It comes from a well-known traditional Quebecois music website. I did not notice the error. Indeed, there should be two different time signatures.
If you still want to decipher the tune, this midi file http://www.mustrad.udenap.org/midis/TQ018.mid should be useful.

Thank you for your comment about my music on YouTube. I really appreciate.
