I don't think I'm going to have time to learn and record tune of the month this time around so here's a posting for the theme of the month.  Possibly slightly tenous (as the name really means 'Farewell the the Shore') and still a bit wobbly in places this is a tune I first learn for Steve Dumpleton's 'Passion & Darkness' workshop at Witney.  At the time I thought it was a gorgeous tune but I was struggling with a damaged finger and Witney information overload.

I looked at this tune again on Saturday evening and was instantly smitten and just had to have a go at learning it.  I'm clearly pushing the boundaries of my capability (again) with this one, so posted with a little trepidation here is Ffarwel i'r Marian
Nice work, Helena! And you settled more into it by the second time through.  I've been practising it but don't feel up to attempting a recording yet!

Cheeky moment - Steve, any chance of the dots or preferably abc for the 'Merch Megan' tune?
Having learnt a tune named after one daughter, am on the hunt for a tune named after my other one!

I think I'm starting to get most of the notes in roughly the right order...... sometimes!

No problem sir! Here you go...

I'm always a bit wary of anything on the Session website. Sometimes the transcriptions are OK, but quite often there are a lot of errors and misconceptions. The version of Merch Megan which Trevor has linked to looks pretty much OK, although there are a few differences here and there. Here's the 'authentic' version on which I base my playing and my workshop material.  ;)

Ok Steve, I'll use your version. Many thanks.
Luckily enough i have a tune named after each daughter and both are waltzes!
Hopefully they'll fit together nicely.
Cheers

Before November is gone...

Horse Keane's Hornpipe on GC Castagnari Cortina
http://youtu.be/J0pTFiqXASs

Carolan's Quarrel with the Landlady on early F/Bb Hohner
http://youtu.be/717uJ7NHjE0

Maguire & Patterson on Cortina

I still need a lot of improvement-especially smoother bellows work and consistent speed but I'm having fun.

Well done - all; great response this month! On to the next theme; late responses as ever are very welcome here - just stick them on the end of this thread.

I enjoyed them, I had that problem with the landlady once as well.

This is something very simple that I recorded yesterday but then the batteries went flat.

Bianca in Osdorp, on a borrowed Hohner Club 2, clack clack, with a few notes borrowed from Mats Eden.  I don't suppose that he or the eponymous Mrs Chinescu Palmer will find out.

One more time - this time I'll call it Peg Ryan's polka  AKA- Kerry or as Lester called it in his tune of the day Egan's polka.

some tunes have way to many names!
On that note, I'm learning the -red haired boy or little beggerman , jolly beggerman ,gilderoy and now being renamed by some to danny pearl's favorite. I think the thought is nice, but do we really need more names?

Danny pearl's favorite   heheheheee
or whatever.
This is a great tune!  I can see why so many traditions use it.
It would make a good tune of the month!
played first on Beltuna then the baldoni, I seem to be messing up in the same spot.
