I went to one of Brian's previous workshops at Lewes and it (and the evening concert) were first class. I am biased, of course as Brian is a friend of mine, but he is an excellent teacher and workshop leader, and thoroughly nice chap. Also the organisation, venue and atmosphere of these regular workshops run by Valmai cannot be faulted. Go.

I've also attended one of Brian's workshops and would thoroughly recommend it. It's a bit far for me to travel from Lancaster, but if you're a tad more local then go along and learn something!

Did his 'blues' workshop at Whitney.  Brian is one of the best workshop leaders about, far better than .. certain other famous names.

May I add that on the following day, Sunday 7th. December, Brian leads an all-day ballad forum? If you're coming to Lewes for the melodeon workshop and evening performance on the Saturday you might like to make a weekend of it. Here are details:

Brian Peters has been singing some of the greatest Child Ballads for many years, but established his reputation as one of their leading researchers & performers with the ballad CD 'Songs of Trial & Triumph'.
In this forum Brian will bring his expertise in locating, refurbishing, arranging & singing the greatest ballads, & also his knowledge of the ballads that you bring yourselves, including comparative versions & fascinating source recordings from the tradition.

Stephen Winick, of the Library of Congress, Washington DC, says: 'Brian Peters has long been one of the very best performers in the field of English traditional song & music,. His Child ballads embody tragedy, action, excitement & humour ... unusual ballads such as Sir Aldingar & False Foudrage shimmer with magic & murder.'

You are invited to bring along at least one traditional ballad of your choice to sing & talk about. To avoid clashes with other contributors. please state your preferred ballad in advance. If your choice has already been taken, we will let you know so that you can choose another. If in doubt about what counts as a ballad, please email me.

The advance music for Brian's melodeon workshop is now ready to be sent out. We've still got workshop places and evening tickets available. By the way, we've just booked John Spiers to do a melodeon workshop and solo evening on 11th. April 2015.

That was, of course, a splendid two days and evening. Brian took the opportunity of catching up with an old friend in Lewes.
