Hohner- the surest way of ensuring that the percussion doesn't get ahead of the melody.

Doug Bailey of WildGoose Records told me he once read a review that mentioned "nicely understated percussion" in an album he'd recorded in his studio.

He knew there wasn't any percussion, but there was a melodeon in the mix...

I got a book about how to carve ivory  for my birthday today.

I'm going to call it my Welsh Singer, because it's an Ivory Manual........

I find this question a bit strange...

Why should the tuning have anything to do with how noisy the action is?

You could even get a D/G made by Serafini and it would be exactly as noise free as your other box!

Good thinking... (:)

I have a very nicely quiet and un-clacky G/C and sometime in the future might like to acquire a D/G.

My Serafini G/C is very quiet, but so many D/Gs that I've heard sound like Astair is tapping on the melody side and Kelly is taking care of the bass end.

Question: Is there a D/G that is generally agreed to be quiet/the most clack free, and doesn't  sound like Astair/Kelley, or my dad's false teeth tapping out the National Anthem?

Thanks

it's kind of weird...but i'm reading this as your dad's dentures also being in D/G tuning? i'm not asking how he produces the bass accompaniment.   (:)

My dad used to beat (if you remember the brand, you'll get that) then eat (actually suck...for hour...after hour....!?!) huge bars of Nutto toffee, and I'm sure his false teeth tuning was a result of that...

Dichotomy: a Welshman in bed
By the way, back to the OP if your Hohner sounds like Fred Astaire you must be playing at one hell of a lick.
Wish I could. >:E

You have to be wearing the right shoes, of course.

Just to (briefly) return to the question and if like many here you find the Hohner sound irresistible, then there are several well respected tuner/maintenance experts on melnet who will re-pad things so they aren't  clacky.  It could be a lot cheaper than going for one of the great Italian/French makers who's instruments are quiet, but who's products are comparatively expensive and in many cases don't play much better or even as well as a well set-up Hohner, IMHO.  Now, back to the percussion!
