Waltz beat
« on: December 17, 2014, 06:26:07 PM »

I'm learning to play Michael Turners Waltz and need some help with the beat.
Is there an online metronome or something that I can use to keep the right beat going?

Hi Arty. I did register with that one but couldn't for the life of me find the waltz beat. It's not an easy site to navigate. However, I will have another go and try to fathom it out.

Have the same problem Arty, I have installed, and uninstalled several metronomes, in an effort to fing waltz tempo. I have a battery powered Korg one sitting here, same problem.

Ahh... Ahhh ... The metronome online does not work on the iPad  but does work on the desktop. However, it only gives a beat that you can vary. So back to the drawing board

Best metronome is your feet. Learn to dance a waltz!

As an accomplished dancer in my mid 40's the waltz beat is in my head. However I want to get it just right and not stray too fast or too slow which I am apt to do when practising.

Back to the metronome online. Set it to a slow  60 (for a beginner)and used my feet to tap out 1..2,3. Should do the trick and keep me on track. Will try that and see how it works.

Yes, I too know the waltz beat. What I want it for, is to help keep my left hand working in time. Bass side still needs practice, and a wee bittie help, wouldn't come amiss.

Personally, I generate a click track 3 beats per measure with Audacity. I choose the speed and length then save it as audio file (mp3). I listen to the click track at low volume with headphones to practice or record myself.

Thanks Serge. Yes, will have a look at Audacity.
In the meantime I have found an iPad app. Pro metronome. Set at 3.4 it gives a good waltz beat.

Downloaded Audacity. It looks really complicated but many folk use it so I guess it'll be my next challenge.

Audacity is a bit overkill just for a metronome but it's a good little program for recording and editing sound files. And it's free!

Just checked - yes, built in click track generator with lots of options. That does look useful.

I don't have any iPad. On my Android tablet I use MetronomeGo. That works very fine.

I don't see a problem with metronome online titch22, you just set the speed you want and count 1,2,3.
What I would suggest, is that you practice only the bass chords against the metronome and when that becomes second nature, add the melody.
Good luck - it's a beautiful tune, written by Mozart I believe.

practice only the bass chords against the metronome ...Sure will Arty. thanks for the advice.
I love this tune. It's realy got to me....and I want it to sound great. I've listened to loads of recordings of it.
The ipad metronome is better for me. I can play it downstairs in comfort.
