Help me identify this black Hohner box
« on: November 20, 2018, 09:05:08 PM »

Hello you lovely lot,

would you be so kind to help me identify this Hohner box?

It's in G/C.
The casing itself is made of pressed wood on the inside and a thin layer of black plastics on the outside (feels similar to the material of my Club II).
The fingerboard and the sideplate of the bass end are made of wood and have been dyed black.
The printings look like the ones on my Erika. However, they seem to have been blue on the inside with silver and gold linings around them.
The Hohner logo also seems to have been blue on the inside and gold on the outside.

I secretly put my hope in the Hohner catalogues you all seem to have stored somewhere (especially Triskel ;) ).
Thank you very much for any insights!  :||:

Yes Dick, I was contemplating putting something similar on, lol.
I use Paint in Windows 10. It's incredibly easy, and I set the pixels at 1000 for the longest side of the pic. It usually comes out OK for me on here.

Thank you both for suggesting that I should kill pixels but I am a pixel-pacifist. Thus I prefer to upload pictures in their original size on an imageboard for them to be directly embedded in a forum. If you dislike the high amount of pixels in my linked pictures, I suggest you try a right click and show image. Through this you can avoid the maximum scaling of the forum and view it in perfect size in your browser.

For future reference: I will try to find a nicer way to embed pictures in the forum. ;)

Yes, thanks. That works and it's great, but it's less convenient.
I don't look at it as "killing pixels", more like releasing them from their bondage!

It is one of the huge number of variants on the basic theme that ended with the Pokerwork.  They are all the same size, use the same mechanism, same reeds and blocks and same bellows. Most parts interchangeable

Thank you, Theo. Am I right in assuming that it's most likely from the 30s then?

The bass configuration suggest 30s/40s for sure if not even earlier:)

I was about to ask exactly the same question about this one (A/D). Same answer I presume?

I Think its a model 3515,I also have one in A/D, and can certainly vouch for the fact that they are excellent boxes, I believe there is also a 3 voice version which is particularly nice and extremely rare.

Thanks for that.
I bought it some years ago at a car boot sale for £35, as I had a pal who was looking for a cheap D/G. Not having perfect pitch, I didn't realise at the time it was an A/D, but when I found out I decided to keep it for myself. I had it tuned, and new bellows fitted (unfortunately not the original red colour).
I am now about to embark on refacing the pallets, as it's very clattery, but apart from that it has a beautiful tone.
