Theme of the Month for February 2015: Food and Drink
« on: February 01, 2015, 01:35:56 AM »

At GPS's most excellent suggestion, this month's theme is tunes with food and/or drink in the title. That's a pretty open ended category, with lots of possibilities so why not have a go?

Cheers,

Clive

Lumps of Plum Pudding

Curses, beaten to it yet again. This was the only one I could think of, apart from Speed the Ploughman's and Ten Viennettas.

Any tune from a spaghetti Western. Via Enrico Moriconi. Eg. The good the bad and the picnic. For a few dollops more. 8)

Sorry folks, couldn't resist.

Scraping The Mould off The Marmalade, by John Kirkpatrick. Apologies for it being a bit pedestrian. I think Anahata has a more animated version somewhere.

Blimey, that was a surprise. I'd better post something!  Pepper in the Brandy, maybe?

Ah now, Lunch at The Pub was a tune that Alan Mead (Shakin all Hohner) started playing one day during last May's Yeovil melodeon building course. We all thought it was marvellous and joined in, to the total bafflement of Emmanuel, who I don't think quite got the almost nursery-rhyme simplicity of the tune. So if Shakin (Alan) happens to see this it'd be nice to hear you play it (:)

It's a wonder Pikey didn't suggest "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts", it's rumoured he has!  ::)

Here are some additions to the menu.

Ed Reavy's "Both Meat and Dhrink" covers the monthly theme pretty comprehensively. And it pairs well, both thematically and melodically, with "When Sick Is It Tea You Want?"  I play them on a Maugein in C#/D, chiming in on mandolin and guitar:

http://youtu.be/F-wyiWb8bXI

And sticking with the Tea motif but switching to the Weltmeister one-row, here's a favorite old reel, "The Cup of Tea," this time with the addition of banjo and flute:

Inasmuch as Punxsutawney Phil, that repulsive marmot, has just predictably sentenced us New World denizens to six more weeks of winter, I should have plenty of indoor time to cook up another offering or two later this month.
