Return from Helsinki
« on: February 17, 2015, 01:28:16 PM »

'Fraid that this month I wasn't keen on the winning TOTM tune so here's my go at the above tune instead.  Thanks to Clive, Roland Carson and Chirs Brimley for the discussion on which chords to use for the tune.

That's a lovely interpretation, and sounds great on that Hohner pressed wood.

I felt similarly, except I thought I ought to have a go at the the chosen ToTM first.
Then I did Return to Helsinki and Blew Bell...

Ahaa! Studying this same track "Return from Helsinki" I've found another melodeon versions on youtube for this same title.
And look what I found!  :D  www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ta1BKKbhJe8
Clive's version here playing the same song. Just listening his version, it seems it was a professional recording version.
Your version Jorden, it seems was a live videos recording, very normal, just with a camera and you playing it. Nice.
But this Clive's version it seems a bit professional I believe. In studio maybe and with those treatments in the sound like mixing and mastering and stuff.
Nice. I am studying this track, in a general way. I will be playing it ahead.
Let's see!  ::)

Aw shucks!  :|bl  Not professionally recorded; simply recorded in the cabin at the bottom of the garden on a Sony minidisc microphone, and tidied up with reverb etc using Mixcraft on a PC. This is the preciosa after it was restored as an 8 bass box, but before it was turned into a 12 bass. You'll notice the sound; unlike most preciosas, I like mine tuned... dry!

Cheers,

Clive

Eh, I think you confused me with McGrooger, Brazilian_BOX. I would really hope one day to play that as nicely (or at all) as McGrooger did!

Dear Mcgrooger,

your recording of this song was my first big goal when I got my first Hohner accordion from ebay. I started from scratch, completely self-taught, and have since practiced a lot.

Today I've decided to record this song and upload it for melnet's listening pleasure. I still love the song just like the first day I've listened to it. Thanks for sharing your version, without it I probably would not have gotten this far with the diatonic accordion. <3

Best wishes from Germany,

Gosh! Thank you Fred.  :|bl So glad that my playing has helped you on your playing journey. Keep up the good work. You're probably more diligent than me - my playing tends to come in fits and starts! Thank you for your nice comment on my effort for this month's theme too.

Well I enjoyed both Mcgrooger and Fred's versions!
Thank you,  it's a lovely tune and I enjoyed both your renditions.
