Swinging on a 3 row
« on: March 26, 2015, 05:23:50 PM »

I just came across this Soundcloud clip of Martin Coudroy (it was linked from his website), and my immediate thought was "wow, i didn't know he played CBA too!". But then, looking at the picture, it shows a 3 row 18 bass! This is some of the most fluid Gypsy Jazz style DBA music I have heard!

The box comes in after about 1 minute. The sung bass line is an interesting touch!

And here's an example from a 3.3 row player https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2LA457bOWI.  Definitely "degenerate music".

The way those guys haul the big boxes around and get those tuba basses going just blows me away!

Same uploader Polkarising with bases AND a Tuba at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQHUr8vORyY

You'd have thought the Tuba might have drowned him out - something else will have to be found............

Thanks Baron for posting this- it seems to be just using the RH, but as you say, very fluid, and it works beautifully.

Is this "gypsy style"? Though the guitar line is totally Reinhart! Whatever it is, and I'd say "minor swing" it is quite excellent both in conception and performance. Very pleased to hear a melodeon in use for this sort of thing.

Most impro sruff is right only, Chris. He has Django there going strong, and coordinating LH chord with off beat jazz ain't easy!

Interesting comment there, Chris, because one might have thought that the Hot Club solid 4/4 beat would fit well with a 2R+LongAcc box.  It's just a question of learning push and pull RH passages at will, which I think is largely where I think I'm aiming to go these days.  You'll have seen Sebastian's comments on another thread about the Atzarin bandoneon system - there's a converging direction here, re chromatic playing:  Atzarin is brilliant for all notes in all keys, push or pull, but 2R+LongAcc is possibly better for home key playing.  A box that simply does all the notes on the RH doesn't need to have many rows, they just become necessary if you want to accompany it too.
