do feel a little guilty though when I keep neglecting the concertina for melodeon.

Me too - haven't even looked at the 'tina lately - got to admit though, there's more going on over here than at concertina.net which has been one of my other haunts.
AL

Having been concentrating on melodeon for past few weeks going back to the concertina...I felt like I was playing backwards....although now some stuff I didn't undestand on concertina makes sense coz of playing melodeon.
And yes it is a bit 'qiet' over there...maybe I should start another pointless thread ;) :P

Next task:

Relax that left hand!!!!!  :|||: ;)
Relax? How do you relax? ;)

I find I can't use basses and air button in the same tune unless I have my fingers like that so I run out of air really quickly. (stupid small hands)

You'll find that as you improve the tension lessens.... not overnight though :P

'Think' relaxed... play relaxed... enjoy the music 8)

Why? They've enough already! BTW if you're interested I've just arranged for The Salvation Army Tutor for English Concertina to be made available on CNET - it may help. It's me that needs the help mind as my scanner is rubbish and so the image quality isn't all that could be desired ??? If they've not put it up yet then let me know and I'll email you a copy if you want.

I'm a Yorkie!
My other melodeon's a fiddle, but one of my Hohners has six strings! I also play a very red Hawkins Bazaar in C and a generic Klingenthaler spoon bass in F.!! My other pets (played) are gobirons - Hohner Marine Band in C, Hohner Tremolo in D and a Chinese Thingy Tremolo in G.

latest update..see I am trying to use the basses

What I see here is that you're actually becoming more musical. You immediately freeze when you make a mistake. You panic and don't know what to do next but that's a positive sign because you hear and recognise an error even if you don't how to correct it.

Learning to recognise and play through the error in question is the next step and it isn't easy but you'll get there. Don't be so willing to write yourself off.

No, actually it was the other way round - I escaped from cnet first! Now I just flip-flop between the two (like a number of other highly esteemed members of this forum  >:E) - but I'm a respected greybeard here but only an advanced member over on the other side which says just about everything I think ;D

Nothing about the playing this time but the audio distortion is painful! There must be a way to turn down the sensitivity of the mic on your Mac. The video soundtrack is over recorded and spoils the whole thing which is a shame.

I'm gonna have to experiment..sometimes the sound is ok other times its horrid. I don't know why.

Give them something to do!  Eg try putting in a B bass using  middle finger.

Just try a B anywhere you would play a G.  If it sounds bad don't do it there again!

Don't visualise it in your head, play it on the melodeon!!!

.... or download Bill Farmer's new melodeon gadget for PC.
Perhaps best not - the confounded invention has set my playing back by 20 years!
Apologies for cross threading (would that be cross stitching?)
