A tune can't be all on the pull surely..
« on: April 11, 2015, 09:58:11 AM »

It must be me....

I've started to try to learn from ear (which I'm bad at anyway) an old tune recorded in the 1930's by the singer Rina Ketty, with her song" Dans les bras d'un matelot" and although I've prodded around a bit, I only seem to find pull notes that match. Flip. I know it must be ridiculous. Should I start again with more prodding?

Also, why can't I learn a tune properly before I'm off to the mangle the next one!!

It could sometimes be helpfull to learn by heart to whistle/hum/sing a song before trying to play it on the melodeon.

Also, why can't I learn a tune properly before I'm off to the mangle the next one!!
Don't know. But if you find the answer, please tell me, because I suffer from the same syndrome. ;)

Ignoring accidentals, on a fifth apart box there are only three notes that are only available on pull - E, C and C# on a DG.  Everything else is available on push.

I listened to this charming little ditty on You Tube, when I noticed that another of her songs is called "Bandonéon D'Amour".
Now I seem to remember it being said on here, that they are played mainly by the use of 'pulled' notes. This being so, could the accompaniment to the matelot song, is played on a bandoneon?

PASS! I was trying to learn it at my husband's request... - he must be mad! and I should have made myself more familiar with it before stabbing away I suppose.  Would it not be playable on a Melodoeon in that case I wonder?

I listen to this video:

There is no bandoneon, but a prominent french musette accordion.

Edit: Here is a link to the score.

I tried to prepare a version which is playable on a melodeon. Maybe someone has a better idea how to adapt the major and minor parts.

Keine Ursache, gern geschehen. (:)

I like to play such tunes myself, so I wasn't entirely altruistic. ;D

Sebastian, between this and Star Wars Melodeon, you are just killing it as of late, and making my day with your playing!

Tex-Mex and Zydeco music is played almost entirely on the pull.

Did three Bb songs at the Wakefield session today. Also accompanied others in Eb and F.  On a  D/Gaccs these are well off the main rows and essentially work because the scale (and hence its chords) are 100% pull. Here's another I did last month

   http://youtu.be/Mt3aZqweTcE

Ditto (more or less as Rees says) there were several mixolydian A tunes (G instead of G# very common in Scottish or Bluegrass) and again that works because it is wholly pull.

I base it on F# blues, all pull and all on the D and G rows. F#m pentatonic is exactly the same notes as A major pentatonic "relatitive major". So you can jam away "in" the scale … or add in a (pull) C for blues affect. You can do the same trick over the A7 chord when the tune is in D obviously

;D Gut getan, Sebastian. Well done. I haven't tried it yet myself. got side-lined on to another tune - again- but I will. Erm, it will be a simplified version though!

Still squeezing after all these years.
Mostly on hohners , with a couple of Dinos and a smattering of anglos - and now a Jeffries duet
