This being so, could the accompaniment to the matelot song, is played on a bandoneon?

There is no bandoneon, but a prominent french musette accordion.

The accordion being a musette-tuned chromatic played by Jean Vaissade - who Django Reinhardt had made his first record with, on banjo, back in June 1928. Vaissade was Rina Ketty's husband from 1938 to 1940.
