Castagnari Laura G/C, happy!, happy!, happy!
« on: April 13, 2015, 10:14:59 PM »

About six months ago, I decided, for several reasons, that I wanted to concentrate on playing French music.

My D/G melodeon just doesn't sound right to me for that music, so I decided to bite the bullet and I ordered a Castagnari Laura G/C from Rees. Four months later, late this afternoon, it arrived. Having just spent two hours playing it, I am now 100% positive that I have done the right thing - it is surely a beautiful instrument, it feels absolutely right in my hands and the sound is balanced and pure. I am going to love this instrument and I think we will have a long and happy life together. I am thrilled !!!  :D

I must also say, what a joy it is to deal with Rees. He also taught me a lot about deep breathing! Thanks Rees.  (:)

Now, let's see how I get on with Messieurs Milleret et Pignol. It's going to be an interesting ride......

Congratulations by the purchase. Nice!  :D

A question about the French music you told. If the G/C tuning the most used by French music players? It would be the pattern tuning for French Music so?

(Cause I have here one box in G/C)

Thanks.

Yes braBox, G/C tuning is the most widely used in France and ideal for the type of music I want to play - here's a good example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRszYRIsJWY

If your experience is anything like mine, you'll still be happy with your decision five years from now. It is a very wonderful little box. I look forward to seeing that big smile on your face in your next video.

I won't Bob, it's the exercises that interest me the most. I really want to learn much more about this instrument we all play and M & P will be very helpful here. I am very impressed with how seriously the French take their traditional music and the books and teaching available to those who want to learn.

All the exercises you'll ever need are taught by learning new tunes >:E

Congratulations on the Laura, I'm happy with my Loffet in GC as well.

Yeah, I've listened a lot about it. I agree totally with it. But I believe for all the music instruments we have execution exercises you know?

To train velocity or the fingering for example.

A nice example: In electric guitar, after do some velocity exercises (as a kind of warming or even just to do the exercises), so after that, father that time of half hour in those exercises, I am playing so really faster and even more comfortable and easier than before.

So, practice across the learning of new songs, and song by song, always executing the songs that you already know and conquering new songs time after time it's interesting. But I believe also there are another ways to train, and practice aiming to get better in that instrument's playing.

Very well put Mister Bra-box.
Now then, I want to learn to play the pandeira, Brazilian stylee. What would you recommend?
(possible new thread alert)

Back to the Castagnari Laura (phew!).

IMHO, the Laura is the best two voice standard two row melodeon from Castagnari. It sings in the lower keys up to C/F. I always supply it with a third stop in the left hand.
D/G is a little high - perhaps a three voice Sander for the same price as a Laura. I have one in Bb/Eb which I am thinking of embezzling.

ok. So you need some VIDEOS exactly as this Ive showed before.

I'll need to put some english subtitles in such videos with brazilians teaching the PANDEIRO techniques... so you can't imeediatly start your classes! =)

OK Rees. I will insert english subtitles in 1 or 2 videos that teach pandeiro in brazilian way. Video classes with brazilians teaching our pandeiro so.

But will not be now now. I am a little busy these times. And I will be working on it slowly at the weekends. But when I finish I will show you.

I will publish in youtube channel, so it gets available for everyone interested in the same topic.

Regards. ;)

Mrs Boxhead teaches Latin percussion, Pandeiro requires some serious technique!

Yes, I've watched a few videos and it does look tricksy. My grandson will probably get the hang of it before I do.  :-[
