All those that you mention, stevejay, are beautiful and probably everyone's favorites. La Mal Aimable is my personal favorite at the moment, simply because it is the tune I have learned most recently and it really does conjur up feelings of France, good wine, Parisian bistros, etc., etc.

If you are looking to extend your repertoire of French music, I would suggest you look at some contemporary composers, e.g. Serge Desaunay, Marc Perrone, Eric Theze. They are writing some lovely stuff in the French tradition. And then, of course there is Stephane Delicq who wrote a lot of the most beautiful tunes before his early passing a few years ago. Emmanuel Pariselle.....this little clip, for me, sums up everything that is so magical about France, it's atmosphere, way of life and it's beautiful, beautiful music - http://youtu.be/-KjaiWI8WPI

There is a wealth of French repertoire on You Tube, which I love trawling through and every now and again I find a little gem!

Currently "on the music stand"  - where tunes stay for a very long time! - are

"Le Bout du Monde" (Maxou Heintzen) - it's on La Chavannee's "Rage du Danse" cd.

"Valse du vielleux d'Anost"  - here on the hurdy-gurdy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJyqKZ4y5Ek

which led to an ear worm -

"Adieu les filles" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7HuE2dO1gU&spfreload=10 (both are in Mike Gilpin's "Dansons la Morvandelle!")

and

"Pas d'été d'mé doeux" (versions of the title vary), caught from Lucas Thebaut - here in a workshop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUVGjdZJMH8&spfreload=10

The hurdy-gurdy and bagpipe thread running through some of these is a bit disquieting, now I think of it.  :o

Best wishes

Musette, of course, is what we all associate with France. Here is a lovely example, really well played I think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbDMe1x3ats&list=FLREXBNDkuTtwlGZc5XjbFXg

Thank you for this post. I just purchased a G/C Sandpiper and have been looking exactly for this. So far I only know one but now I know where to look when I need more.

I recently bought 21 Boutons, by Bonnert & Romani, and it's getting a lot of plays. Nothing on that CD, that Idon't like.

"Dos a dos" and "Sur Son 31" are pretty good, too.  ;)

Oops, thread drift.
