My contribution -

https://youtu.be/_-rPwJ2cD3Q

I haven’t played this tune before on a melodeon though I already knew it from elsewhere.
I started by seeing how it fitted on the D row and very quickly made choices on the G row based upon the harmony and which basses I wanted.

Bar 2, I use the A on the G row to match the A chord.
Bar 3, I want a G chord then an Eminor so the first 2 notes on the G row then the second 2 on the D row.
Bar 6, staying on an A chord against the top G so staying on the D row.
Bar 9, again using an A on the G row against the A chord.
Bar 11, across to the G row against a G chord.
Bar 12, again just the A on the G row but staying there for –
Bar 13, 3 As on the G row and the G on the D row.
Bar 14, run down on the D row but then D and G on the G row against a G chord.
Finishing back on the D row as usual.

Here's my "other band" playing the same tune, recorded a couple of years ago just before I joined them.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fa_XYT1GW4

The eagle–eyed may spot a small microphone attached to the top of the treble side of the box.  This a trial of a hyper-cardioid mic attached at the top of the box and pointed downwards towards the bottom of the grill as described some time ago by IanD. The idea being that the pickup pattern of the mic compensates for the difference in distance from the reeds along the box.  This is a Crown GLM200 attached to a short wooden bar using a small piece of heat-shrink tubing with a couple of pieces of guitar string inside to make a goose-neck.  The wooden bar is attached to the box using neodymium magnets. And a couple of matching magnets neatly replace the two cup washers at the top end of the grill.

Very nice, Mr. McG. Your right hand harmonies arise very naturally and add a lot to the basic tune. Thanks for the good ideas...now if I can just pilfer them successfully!!

Thank you, Mr. TJ.  Pilfering from each other is part of what TOTM's for surely.  (:)

... and here's my effort of Harlequin Air; straight down the line effort in D and G (key change on 3rd time through!), but played on the Hohner Lucia which I'm playing a lot at the moment. It's a great little box and even better now I've got have a clue what the stradella bass does! Only 3 chords here though; nothing fancy... well, actually a 4th chord if you count the jump to G.

I've gone for a more relaxed pace that it's currently fashionable, but I guess the second voicings compensate for it. Honestly, to trascribe the dots into abc was harder than learning the tune!

Cool even without those extra notes.

Awkward little rascal for me. For most of the month I didn't think it would ever get even this far.

You do sound a little awkward Jeff, certainly not comfortable with it - but, my goodness, that's lovely! I love the basses and your whole 'attack' brings it to life. Keep it on your practice list and you will get there - it's worth it! Well done!

Hello all,

Here's my contribution - https://youtu.be/V_NjH0R6-XM. First part fooling around, second part played straight  (:)

This tune is very nice, I wish I had the inspiration and patience to come up with a richest version, but that was the best I came up with.

And June is coming. Have a nive weekend 8)
