Poll: Tune of the Month for June 2015
« on: May 25, 2015, 11:57:36 PM »

Hi folks - this month's selection:

Vedder Michel - runner up last month,  - from northern Germany comes this ridiculously catchy little number - https://youtu.be/abCbTASVcCo (first tune in set), and thanks to nominator Sebastian, here's a link to some ABC too: http://www.folktunefinder.com/tune/194615/

Tralee Gaol - yes, nice thought - trad Irish polka (I believe!), and one which Lester hasn't done yet! Fortunately, our own Pikey has a rapidly increasing collection of recordings including this one... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYVhSkaqz6U

Swedish Rhapsody - I heard this tune the other week played by an ice cream van, and thought - what a cracking polka - what is that tune? Well, it was this little ditty, another ridiculously catchy tune you've known all your life. No melodeon recordings out there yet (that I know of), though there are plenty or guitar/accordion/etc versions. And this, by Mantovani - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Be3BZeoqs3Y . Composed by Hugo Alfven - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Alfv%C3%A9n

Gypsy Princess - courtesy of Gavin Atkin's wonderful youtube channel, a lovely Irish barn dance tune, here played by Gavin himself - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F14Kyxvnlcs - there's also slowed down versions of it at the end of his video. What more could you want?

There you go, 4 (IMHO) cracking tunes. Enjoy choosing between that lot!

Clive

Here is a simple set of dots for Swedish Rhapsody, (Midsommarvaka), and also a version I recorded a few years back on a 9+3 Organetto. Please forgive the neon enhancement, I was still learning to operate the movie software. It's a fun little tune, and fits well on one rows  (:)

Swedish Rhapsody -
...
No melodeon recordings out there yet (that I know of)

I heard it played by Ed Rennie when the band Housewives' Choice did an Anchor garden ceilidh at Sidmouth a few years ago. So it's definitely been played before on a melodeon, whether or not recorded.

I'm a melodeon player. What's your excuse?

Yep - I rushed home and tried it (after I had my ice cream) - it fits very nicely on the box.

Want to add this version of Vetter Michel, because I once participated in a workshop held by the melodeon player, Rainer Schwarz. (:)
