Tunes Related to the Water/ Sea/ Marine
« on: May 11, 2015, 08:59:12 PM »

Hi everyone

I am looking for a bit of help with some tunes, I will be playing with Taffy Thomas at Whitby Folk Week and there's a performance where I need a set of tunes related to the Water/ Sea or anything Maritime. I was wondering if you guys could help me find some tunes because the only one I can think of so far is Oyster Girl.

Thank you for all your help in advance

Ireland:
Out on the Ocean

Scotland:
Rowing from Islay to Uist
Leaving Lochboisdale
The Vital Spark
Cutty Sark
Crossing the Minch

Shetland:
Da Full Rigged Ship
Da New Rigged Ship
Aandowin at da Bow
Da Shaalds o Foula

England:
The New Rigged Ship (the other one)
The Sailors Hornpipe

And loads of song tunes from all over - The Captain's Apprentice, The House Carpenter, The Golden Vanity, Lowlands Away, Shoals of Herring, The Bonny Ship the Diamond, The Banana Boat Song, It Was Sad When That Great Ship Went Down, The Grey Funnel Line, Y'A Dix Marins Sur Mer, innumerable sea shanties...

You could easily play marine-related tunes for a full day without repeating any of them.

Northumbrian ones that do relate to the sea: Dol Li A, The Keel Row, Bobby Shafto, When the Tide Comes In.

Is that the one celebrating the Scots forced labour fishing fleet?

If you've got a singing head on, how about a cover of Emmanuel Pariselle's wonderful La Nonchalante? Available in French, English (courtesy of Jack Diatonique), or if you fancy a challenge, Norwegian...
