Higher Registers on a GC - A lighter touch?
« on: May 21, 2015, 07:53:57 PM »

Do you find that the higher treble notes need a lighter touch/bellows control to not sound harsh or shrill?
I am playing a GC, and I find myself easing up on buttons 7 and up to get a good tone, or get closer to the tone I want.

Make sense? 3 reeded instruments sound more mellow in the higher registers (to my ear)than 2. I base on youtube samples I've heard.

.

Guess they do, the reeds are half the size ;)

but melodeonism is surely more about  bellows than buttons?

Yes of course they do. It's about getting to know your instrument and how to get the best out of it. With experience, it has to become second nature.

The same thing with most other instruments I expect. I played the oboe for thirty years and it became second nature to alter the air pressure going through the reed and to adjust the embrouchure all the time, in order to get the best tone. Classical guitar too - more power plucking the higher strings and less on the lower ones, to avoid buzzy sounds.

You say, stevejay, 'that you find yourself easing up........' Well, that is musicianship, that is part of the instrumentalist's skill. You obviously have a good ear.

Thank you. I think it is a lesson in the importance of dynamics.
The musicians I like to listen to have a good sense of it.

Ahem …  just to add that I had nothing whatsoever to do with the English text on the sales page ::)

Shame no French subtiltes mentioned. (Stéf said there would be).  As a lot of their demo's are (obviously) physical, the DVD is generally understandable for those like me with schoolboy French, but they do talk a bit fast down in Rhône-Alpes. Something written can be a big help.
