Thank you both. It was a delightful discovery that the LH 'chord' buttons with thirds removed sound amazingly similar to NSP drones. The pipe drones are normally in fourths/fifths anyway, but there's something about the sound of that box in particular that resembles them. It may be because I got Martyn White to tune them in perfect 5ths  instead of equal temperament. (the thirds are also perfect 5/4 ratio too, when they're in)

Philippe Bruneau's "La complainte du folkloriste," a one-row tune if ever one was written, played on...a one-row (with just a little help):

http://youtu.be/uMrVPm0Sm4o

As the tune also suits this month's Theme at www.concertina.net ("Waltzes"), I had previously put up an Anglo version as well:

http://youtu.be/wFahjdCbYFo

(While I was recording the melodeon version, the dog, just out of view, was sleeping contentedly, using my right leg as a pillow. He's an old dog, and doesn't mind my complaining.)

I have uploaded my two recordings for the theme of month to my new soundcloud account. I hope the links are working.

The first is a set that starts with the german folk song/lullaby "Guter Mond, du gehst so stille" and ends with Mrs Saggs by Chris Wood (or Woods depending on source  :o )

https://soundcloud.com/klonophonium/guter-mond-mrs-saggs

The second is the song Mad World by Gary Jules:

3 videos to share with you today... the first 2 are a little rough and ready; demos for a couple of new pieces we could add to the following concert (plug plug), with my friend Mark Prescott on violin:

http://www.vivantmusic.co.uk/concerts.php (7.30pm, Tuesday 30th June, St Mary and St Giles church Stony Stratford, near Milton Keynes).

But I digress.

The first piece, Coroare, written by Chris Wood. This appears as the opener to Chris and Andy's long out of print CD 'Lisa'... lovely tune. Every bit as good as Mrs Saggs, but not as well known. I've been playing Mrs Saggs for years, and it struck me it really was time I learned this one. So, here we go, on a Castagnari Mory in D/G:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTK-4cKMRkc

Second piece, Kathleen, written by Kathryn Tickell. I've been playing this for years (but on piano, where it's *lovely*)... time to see if it fits on the D/G Mory. I think so - it's early days with it, but it will come. Certainly worth persevering with.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWvLoeFyu5s

Finally, in one of those ideas that sounded like a good idea at the time, here's Roslin Castle, yet another tune I've played on the piano for years, but have never quite got a good arrangement on melodeon yet. So, we're in string quartet mode! Here's the Streb, driving the iPad via the 'Thumbjam' app, letting me play 3, and sometimes 4, parts all at the same time. The melodeon really is a remarkable instrument at this, and a stunningly versative midi input device with a bit of practice.

Cheers,

Clive

A simple but nice tune "Where are you going?" (should be in French but cannot remember proper title). The first recording with recently aquired Tommy.

I bought squeezy's DVD when I first started learning the melodeon at the end of 2013.  I watched it twice and it has been languishing on the shelf ever since.  I thought it was time to dust it off and have a go, as I really like this tune. Still a lot of work to do on it, but here it is anyway (played on the new DB):

Here's The Rosehip. https://youtu.be/QxaiAZtLHBg

The tune was written by Ric Sanders of Fairport Convention and was on their album Red and Gold.

I used to play the tune as a "listener" in a band in Manchester but I used to play it on concertina with fiddle, flute, guitar and piano to help me with the harmony.

Here it provides a good illustration of why I play a 2 1/2 row mainly in the base keys, using the half row for inversions and accidentals rather than the other popular way, using the half row to extend the possible keys.

You can see (I hope), I use the inverted D in a number of places to avoid bellows changes particularly on the run down at the end of the A music making a D7 with the C.  Then there's the small matter of an Eb with a Cm chord and a G# for an E major. Thirds out on the left hand to allow both these things to happen and to help with Am chords in other places.

An insight into how YouTube thinks: if you come to that video just after watching a Japanese zit popping video you get "related" promos for rosehip oil as an acne treatment.

It's recommending anti-ageing creams with rosehip to me! Maybe it's trying to tell me something.

Thanks Blue-Eyed-Sailor. Much appreciated.

Our modest go at Theme Vannetaise.  Will hopefully have another crack at this in a few weeks and see how we've progressed.

Three weeks on and some improvement, but not as much as I had hoped.

Here, at the last minute, is my contribution to the Theme Of The Month Show. :D

https://youtu.be/Jui-aw2s5R0

I hope it qualifies as a slow tune. It is better described as maestoso than largo, but I like it and enjoyed learning to play it for the theme.
I still have a few duff notes on my pokerwork, that need sorting. My choice of basses was made with regard to avoiding the squeeky notes
The video was recorded on my ancient Samsung snap camera. Sound was recorded on a Zoom H2. Edited in Cubase (first time I've used it for ages. I really do prefer Reaper, but that wasn't available) and  pasted on in Windows Movie Maker. Naff but available (rather like myself, owt's better then nowt).

I had hoped to find time to record something this month, but it hasn't happened, so here is one I made earlier for a Theme of the Month in 2012: my arrangement of In Dreams - the Hobbit Theme from Lord of the Rings.
