Whats that word?
« on: June 13, 2015, 12:44:51 AM »

Anyone know what the word is for us players that can use both hands at the same time, yet playing(doing) different things?  Such as playing the treble and bass sides independently.

Ambidextrous??  I thought it may be that, but that just states the ability to use both hands.  But does not necessarily mean that we can use both hands at the same time, to do separate functions.

Ah, but can you simultaneously draw a clockwise circle with your foot and a counterclockwise circle with your same-sided hand?    >:E

Recently I've been learning piano. I've always been able to pick out a tune with the right hand and plonk a few basic chords with the left, but a few months back I decided to get good at it.

As a long time box player my left hand has always fallen for short of the nimble dexterity of an articulate right. Key to succeeding in my endeavor had be be developing left hand technique. I started by running some scales, left hand only, I was greatly amused to watch the fingers, which I expected to climb up the keyboard, drift in completely the opposite direction!!!

Yes......

and Yes from me!

must come from 50  or so  years or so of playing both ends of a box which by definition require completely different actions.  There is nothing 'clever' about this aand all box players must sooner or later develop a degree of 'ambidextrocity'!

Sort of, but only just. The only thing my foot does is tap out the rhythm.

Paul Klee (who was basically left-handed) could paint with his left hand while simultaneously writing a letter with his right.

I discovered, when I took up melodeon, that I too, am ambidextrous.

I can do sod all, with either hand!

limb independence or hand and finger independence.

I need it to be 1 word, would sound so much cooler that way.   :o

Left hand dominance is certainly useful on box. especially if one is chord led.

"guess you're left handed, Andy" (C)

"How did you know that"? :o
