OK, so what do I do now...
« on: August 21, 2015, 01:49:39 PM »

Whoopee! I just took delivery of my new Saltarelle Boube Re-Sol melodeon. A new big
brother for my six concertinas.

After getting it out of the packaging, followed by putting it on upside down(*),
I actually got some semblance of a tune out of the beast (Back to The Army Again,
Kipling), I now have a couple of idiot questions (Yers, I have looked at the helpful
notes on the home page, and I have taken my watch off...):

If I elect to go with only one strap, should this be the one for the right shoulder
or the left shoulder? I'm guessing that it should be the right. I have seen somewhere
a detailed description, with pictures, of how to set the straps up, but now cannot
find it. Can anyone point me to the URL?

The bellows are 'stiff' (understandably). Should I spend a minute or so each day
simply working them to 'run them in'? Should I be careful not to over-extend the
bellows till they are a little 'looser'?

Ta.

Roger

(*) Par for the course, I once managed a life-jacket upside-down and inside-out - twice!

Hi Roger,

one strap would be just the right one because you will pull at the bass end, against the strap then...

Enjoy ýour new toy and don't worry abougt your MADness :D

congratulations on your new melodeon....... I hope you have many happy hours together!
If you're starting from scratch I'd advise at least trying two straps.
One v's two straps have taken up whole threads, and I certainly don't want to go down that road again. I've never really worried one way or the other, but greatly appreciated having the weight taken by two straps, especially after holding an English Concertina with tiring wrists!
..... but it's your choice in the end.
Good luck

I think I'm starting to get most of the notes in roughly the right order...... sometimes!

Freeing up bellows

Ouch! That is scary stuff, but I'll give it a go...

Five minutes later: Gordon Bennet! That is truly remarkable - about 1000% better straight away!

Thank you!

Roger
