Provenance of the this Playford file?
« on: August 11, 2015, 04:21:09 PM »

I have a great Playford tune file with chords but cannot remember where or when I acquired it.  Does someone know from whence it come so that I can rename and retag it with proper credit?  Thanks, Steve

I think it must be from an Australian source.  >:E

As an aside I feel sort of compelled to remark that the application of A7 chords in the B-section of Apley House is debatable IMO, as you won't find the second sharp (C to C#) in the dots.  :neigh:

You might try to keep the tune in Gmaj and its parallels, of which Dmix (mixolydian mode) will make itself heard when you're building your chords with C natural (i.e. Amin in bar 2 of the B-section) in the B-section too (which I myself am really loving..!).

Here's a recording of my own playing the tune (in the second place, following "Jamaica"), with the English Concertina I'm afraid, but you'll hear what I mean...

Hope you don't mind the hint, and good luck with your inquiry - Wolf

I haven't been using it as my "authoritative" source (kudos Pete, Chris, et. al.), also it's abbreviated, but do use the chord ideas….

Bluddy oath, I recognised the bugger straight away ...
I think its from The Round Band Book of Playford, which I downloaded from http://www.srcf.ucam.org/round/files/rbbop.abc

My remark was not about a single chord taken by itself but the key resp. mode for the entire B-section - however it's a choice to be made...

P.S.: Re-listening to my own track has prompted me to aim at a more accurate recording...(:)

Yes, I think so too and recognised it straight away. It's the first page of that file.

I don't pay much attention to the chords. They have nothing to do with Playford and I suspect they were added by a PA player fairly recently. As it's hosted and maintained by people here in Cambridge I could quite possibly find out who...

Thanks, I'll tag it per Smiley's reference.
I used to be a Playford purist, but Clive's Kettledrum "expanded" my notion...

I wouldn't have mentioned the chords were they not mirroring a rather common approach to this lovely tune (which maybe I wouldn't have questioned myself if not for my loving the mixolydian mode), but I agree that the chord indications don't claim to be original anyways...
