Attaching files
« on: May 20, 2009, 11:54:30 AM »

I have tried to attach a file showing how I play the tune to the thread about Jump at the Sun, but the file size is 362 KB and it says that the maximum allowable is 256 KB. I have tried it as a PDF file and as a JPEG and both are too large. Is there any way round this? Using ABC notation is not an option because I don't understand it and have neither the patience nor the time to learn it.

Depending on what program you've created the file in, you might be able to save it as a .gif file -- because your image is (I assume) greyscale this should work well and and be smaller than the .jpg. Alternatively, you could resave your .jpg using a lower quality level to reduce the file size. Finally, you could use a site like www.flickr.com and put the file there, and then post a link to it. Hope one of these works!

Thanks very much, Alison, for your help.  :-* The gif file proved to be even larger, but I found a way to reduce the size of the JPEG and have managed to post the attachment successfully. Now, I just have to remember how to do it for next time!  ::)

I know I'm a little too late
but if you get a photobucket account
http://photobucket.com/
you can host files however big and use img tag to post here.

There's a handy site that I use called Web Resizer.
Find it at http://webresizer.com/resizer/

Thanks, Rees and LDT. Both these sites look very useful.

That's easy, all you need is to get a nice Lilly, a Preciosa or a Liliput. There was also a mention on here a while back of an Excelsior Mini.
