I've given up complaining. When it happens I just clear cookies and log back on again (this can also be a real pain with multiple attempts plus sometimes needing password reset).  :(

I've not seen a single error like this in several months, and I've only received a very few reports from others. This suggests that the errors are being triggered by something subtle, and probably not on the server.
I've found that any of the following can stop the errors happening again:
Re-start my  browser removing cookies and clearing cache.
Re-starting my computer or smartphone.
Keeping my software up to date
Switching off my wifi router and leaving it off for 10 minutes before switching it back on.

I had this a couple of hours ago when trying to send a PM from my laptop. Sent it from my iPad with no problem.

Edit: Got it trying to post this. Logged out and in again and it worked OK.

I just successfully replied to a topic after doing a quick test posting, maybe that's the secret?  Or waiting a day?  Worth a try.  Anything beats deleting cookies et al.

Yes, that often works for me too. Bit of a faff though. (Chrome on Mac).

It is all very strange.  I used to get the error from time to time using Firefox on Mac, since changing to Chrone some months ago not a single error.

I noticed the server stopped responding for a few minutes this afternoon, that might have caused the errors you saw.

As a now-retired systems software developer, I find this error really frustrating and think we should be able to get to the bottom of it if we analyse the evidence carefully.

It happened again to me this afternoon and I spotted something odd on the error report screen I had not noticed before - see my screen capture attachment. Underneath the You can use this key to fix the problem yourself... line, there was a digit 2 which was a link and when I hovered the mouse pointer over the 2, the destination appeared on the bottom line as expected. What was very odd was that the destination www .seattlehumane.org/name-of-some-php-file (obfuscated here) seemed to have nothing to do with melodeon.net. I did not follow the link! I decided at this point to capture the screen contents. (If you look at Gromit's original message in this thread, you will see that he too appears to have something odd between the You can use this key... and the If you are unable to fix the problem yourself... lines.

Can this be reported/investigated please Clive/Theo.

I then decided to see what was displayed if I clicked on reload (which meant retrying the attempted login2 action). More surprises - reloads repeated the Error 403 page but the repeats did not include the weird link until after about 3 or 4 reloads, I logged in successfully!

The OS/browser combination was Windows 7 Pro 64 bit with Firefox 50. I am prepared to invest more time on investigating this problem if the forum admins or the SimplePortal developers need anyone to carry out further experiments.

Got this error again tonight when trying to post to Lester's 250K page view thread. I just clicked the Reload current page button until the error page was replaced by the updated forum page. I needed to click it four times I think before the error page was gone. On one of the reloads, the digit-2-link to the seattlehumane web site which I reported earlier appeared on the error page. Very strange.
