The reload trick (after a couple of times) seems to be working for me - thanks VOF

I'm not sure if this is relevant to the 403 problem, but I find that I still get the error when I try to open Melnet with my usual Chrome browser, Microsoft Edge however, has no problems at all. I don't like MS Edge so how can I get back to my original Chrome please?

Hey! I just got here (on Chrome) directly from the FB Page. The problem above still remains however. Has anybody any ideas please?

You probably need to refresh the cache in Chrome  - dial up melnet then hit ctrl-f5 should do the trick (assuming Windows)

It's back for me - haven't had it for ages, and the refresh trick isn't working.

Yes, I've noticed it happening again occasionally since the change of hosting company and I agree the F5/refresh ploy does not always work (but I suspect that is because it depends on what you were trying to do at the time the Bad Behaviour module shows you the red card...)

I've adjusted the threshold before Bad Behaviour kicks in.

Theo - is it possible to allow more than one 'search' in a minute - whatever.  It seems to be a defence against Bots, but is that really a problem?

Annoying to be locked out for several minutes because your search term didn't get what you sought  ::)  Basically you would like to type in an alternative  :-\

 = = = = =

Just retried - searched for 'nelodeon' and was blocked from correcting to 'melodeon' - but only for 5 seconds. I think I can live with that  ;)  Thanks

I had to delete cookies, close and then reopen firefox (which always worked in the past)

but this time I got 403 error … LOGGING IN!

Safari bypassed this, and presently I'm on my tablet. Will try desktop FF again later in the day

But the issue seems to be "dirty cookies"

"Edward, oh that life in software development and bug diagnosis was that simple  (:)   Vince"

Although I'm sure that no offence was intended in the above, I've stayed out of this discussion/investigation since I was warned off. (Not offended in any way shape or form, mind! Computing and computers are a completey alien world to me.)

However, after spending a lifetime having to find and cure faults which sometimes eluded the best specialists that vehicle manufacturers main agents cold produce, I'm still at a loss here as to why this faut is being blamed on the origin of the site when it seems to only occur with certain users?

I'm sure that Theo/Clive or whoever, could quite quickly estimate the percentage of users who are experiencing this difficulty, and I'd lay odds that it's a rather small proportion. So why should the signal (or whatever means by which the site is being is transmitted and enables us to view it and contribute) only change from being "good" to being "bad" for some of the members? Is it really possible for the "origin" to transmit, whatever it is that it transmits, of different qualities to particular receptors, unbidden?

Is it not possible that sight of the wood is being missed because of the trees? Especially as (I believe) the site is now coming via a completely different server (whatever that is?). I'm fully aware that I may have just put one of my size 10's in my gob again, but never mind, my skin's as thick as the rest of me!!!

I haven't experienced this problem in 29 days of being connected.

I get disconnected on iPad, iMac and (as today) on this PC, attached via a completely different server.   I'm beginning to wonder if the 'bug' might be something to do with accessing melnet on several machines?

I've recently been loooking at the technicalities of peristent login sessions ( i.e. being able to re-open your browser and find you are still logged in to a site like melnet) and it is certainly possible to allow multiple independent sessions, i.e. to be able to do the same concurrently from different browsers, devices and IP addresses. I don't know exactly how this is done by the Simple Machines Forum software that melnet runs on, but it works for me: I don't have any trouble using FF and chrome from at least 4 different devices regularly. I used to have trouble sometimes with an Android tablet, but I don't use it often enough to know how well that works now.

Yes, I connect variously from 2 pcs, an iPad and an iPhone, without normally needing to log in again.

I just read posts in Chrome and if I want to post something I use Opera, which I keep on my machine for annoyances like this.  Works like a charm, for some reason.
