Ok...there's a first time for everything...forgive the dodgy start...youtubevirgin. :|bl

Mobberley Rose Queen Festival is in its 93rd year.  Certain dances are danced every year including the Boys' (although now danced by girls) and Girls' hornpipes.  The tune for the boys' hornpipe is a variant ofThe Trumpet and involves much triple tonguing and red faces from the band.  This is the tune for the girls' dance and I have yet to hear it played anywhere else...but would love to be proved wrong.  Totally gratuitous key changes.  Lighting effects and "ping" courtesy of halogen oven.

More Mobberley obscurity when I've got over the shock...
Superb tune Baz

Dear God, thank you for helping me get, and play the melodeon, and harmonica. I am extremely grateful for these gifts. Amen.

Today, I have recorded Szla Dzieweczka, a Polish folk tune (either an oberek or waltz), on my Mundinger Diaton III Club Accordion. Enjoy!  ;D

I've posted this before, but here's a version on my AD Hohner Pressed wood.

The East Riding of Yorkshire version of Napoleon Crossing the Alps , a waltz. Collected only from Billy Harrison (who was the source of 'Fathers Polka') and Sid Martin. Both lived within a few miles of each other on the Yorkshire Wolds.

Sid always played the A part with 9 bars !

Thanks Spartacus  ;)

Followed by a March that I think is Scottish. It just popped in my head, I don't know what it's called . Can anyone help? I think Bob Ellis might know .

Update : found it ! It's Miss Forbes Farewell to Banff.  Also known as Bill Halls number 2. Bill was from Baldersdale in the Yorkshire Pennines

Here's a curiosity: an obscure dance tune by an obscure composer.

http://youtu.be/v0SFxzgBgvQ

For some years I've worked as occasional tunesmith-for-hire for the Theatre Department at Allegheny College, a liberal arts school in northwestern Pennsylvania (and a place I've never actually visited). I look forward to gonzo requests from Beth Watkins, the department chair and director: my all-time favorite was probably the "upbeat song about cholera" she wanted for an original production a few years back (I complied, but that would be a whole other story).

Last weekend saw the premiere of another original play, "(Ghost) Light," for which this is the theme music. Beth had wanted a love duet to be sung by Marie and Pierre Curie (I'm not making this up).

I pondered this for a few days, and decided that what the couple really needed wasn't a song, but a dance. And what better dance than a varsovienne? Warsaw-born Marie was after all...une varsovienne...

There was a quip that circulated among physicists of that period that Pierre's greatest discovery in the field was Marie. So in her honor I dubbed the tune "La belle trouvaille." I play it here as I imagined it might be staged, with a sense of mounting excitement. How it actually came out in production I'll know when I see the video recording.

Till then, this one's for Marie.

Here's one: Pig Flu Blues which I wrote for Pig Dyke Molly when I used to play for them. They used it for a dance called "Pig Swill" for a while; I believe they now still use it occasionally as a processional. Mary Humphreys and I sometimes play it for an encore at the end of a folk club set.
We have been known to do it for Notty Swing at a ceilidh as well...

That is very cool and I love it. (Particularly the little bit of cheeky tremolo towards the end!  :D)

PS. Do you happen to have notation for this?

It hardly needs to be said that I don't play it exactly as written, but this'll give you some idea.
The files are called "pigflu2" because originally the tune was shorter, then I was asked to add more to make it fit the dance better. It think it was actually the middle two sections that were added later - I really can't remember.

Thank you kind sir, one for those dark evening coming along soon.....
I have a feeling I've seen you and Pig Dyke perform this a few years back at Towersey, when I first met you.
Somehow sounds familiar, and a great tune.
thanks again

Obscure unless you're familiar with tunes from the Joshua Jackson manuscript; I got the dots from The Session website. Not heard it on melodeon before.
