Here is my first attempt, I think this one will develop over time! Played on a GC Tommy.

here is my first try, this is a good exercise to record yourself, you discover some room of improvment, I'm not always in the right tempo, still need to practice ;-)
I enjoyed that (and the others).  I liked your personal take on the rythm, rather than just following the herd.  Ended with a laugh "C'est fini..." - reminded me of a friend who pulls up outside my house to offer me a lift and texts "ici".

Guess I'd better sit and learn this one!

Lots of fumbles this time....TOTM was calling. Hope it's of interest how it sounds in different keys.
Quite a sad little tune if played quietly. I wonder what the words of the song mean. They seem to be in  Occitan or somethng like that.

Don't you just love Google Translate. I tried Catalan on the Occitan, then French on the result. I'm not a lot wiser but it gives me the impression of a nationalist anthem. Of course, this is likely to be completely wrong, but l rather like the way it nearly makes sense:

Haaa I just noticed that this was tune of the month  (:)
Here is a video taken in August in a Jasserie in the forest above Montbrison where I met with a group of French musicians for a weekend of music, food and drink.
It's a 'fun' video  :D

Here's my ABC in case it helps anyone (it's the version I'm going to learn it from), and with full acknowledgement to Christophe for doing most of the hard work in the first place:
Code: [Select]
X:1
T: Esperanza
R:Scottish
C:Marc Perrone
M: 2/4
L: 1/16
K:C
|:"Am" A2Ac e2ec|AEAc e4|A2Ac e2fe|"E" dcBA ^G4|
B2Bc d2dc|BA^GA B4|B2Bc d2fe|dcBc "Am" A4:|
|:"Dm" ffff e2df-|f8 |"Am" eeee d2ce-|e8 |
"E" dddd c2Bd-|dB2^G E4|1 edcB A2Bc-|"Am" c8:|2 edcB A2^GA-|"Am" A8|]

I'm a bit confused, maybe someone can help me out: this tune is in Am (harmonic minor) in this transcription. Am I correct that on a C/F box I could play it in Am (or Dm)?

Thanks,
Jorden

Yes, it's A minor. I should have corrected that "K: C" which I simply copied - it's wrong.

Playing on a C/F box in Amin you won't get the E chord you need. In Dmin you'll be fine.

Thanks, Anahata. On the C/F I then have an A for the E you would have on the D/G. And did I understand correctly that you wouldn't have an Dm (playing in Am on a D/G) or a Gm (playing in Dm on a C/F) on a standard 2-row box?

One of us is confused...
Where a D/G would have E/Eminor, a C/F has D/Dminor.
A D/G doesn't have D minor you might need when playing in A minor; the equivalent statement about a C/F is that it doesn't have C minor that you might need when playing in G minor.

Approaching the topic from a fresh direction:
If you want to play Esperanza in the original key of A minor, the easiest box to play it on is a G/C.
For the same fingering, that would be E minor on a D/G, or D minor on a C/F
Any other minor key will involve a serious compromise on available chords.

Yep, that's me, my second question was about the ABC: there is a Dm-chord in it. I was asking if I understood correctly that you wouldn't have that chord on the bass-end of a standard 2-row D/G box.

Strictly speaking, you don't have a D minor chord on a D/G melodeon, but you do have a D bass and if you have a switch to cut out thirds your D "chord" will be usable for D minor. Also, you need an F natural in the treble side, which is an accidental of an D/G box, and it may be a push or pull note, but which ever it is, you have a D bass for it. So all is not lost if you want to play it in A minor on a D/G instrument. Note that similar consideration applies to the E bass: you really want E major, but you have E minor; however with thirds cut out they are the same.

If you don't have a thirds switch, just play the bass note. Hardly anyone will notice. I play whole tunes with basses and no chords sometimes...

I love this version, the melodeon and the clarinet go so well together don't they. The result is something very much alive!!! Well played, both of you.
