My Bb/Eb melodeon is just another box in another key to be utilised as and when required.
It's also the one that got me the gig on BBC Larkrise to Candleford  (:)

I await the call for Downton Abbey...but knowing my luck I'd get The "Real" Housewives of Cheshire....

Rees - I expect you have much more varied requirements for boxes in various keys, which is fair enough given the various bands you're in.
I have no such requirements for keys other than D/G, except I just love the sound!

Errr Baz, don't hold your breath, they're ending the series soon   ::)

I think I'm starting to get most of the notes in roughly the right order...... sometimes!

In our band we play in G/D/A/E/C/F and Bb and most of the relevant minors!

Which is (one reason) why I currently use the Streb.  However now I've got D/G, C/F, Bb/Eb and E/A liliputs, I might be working towards a natural sound!

D/G Oakwood (new model), D/G, C /F, Bb/Eb and E/A Liliputs,
A STREB!!,
2.5 D/G Self made Emmanuel Pariselle, D/G Pokerwork,
and Wolverton Advanced G/D Anglo Concertina and C/G  1937 Wheatstone.
all played "lefty" with mostly an extra air button, except the Concertinas which I play the conventional way round.

Blimey Brian! ....I thought most of those keys were mythical  ;)
I suppose it all comes back to what you play, the definitive statement that seems to follow Melodeons around wherever they are discussed.
Obviously, like Rees,  you have a cast  iron reason for needing the various keys you own, whereas my reason is simply because I am getting to really like the sound it makes.
Also, I only get out once a month to a session, so I'm playing for myself most of the time, which seems to be  sound argument for using something you enjoy the sound of.

Hmmmmmm sounds like I'm talking myself into something.........  ::)

Just to point out that a 3 row, 12 or 18 bass offers playability in all these keys, sometimes that's mainly chords but melody too if you practice it up.

Mine (DG basis) really doesn't like Ab or F minor, but note (Valhermeil thread) Bruno le Tron's CGaccs can get to those keys. Guess not Db/Bb minor though?

"Mythical"  :o  … I am reminded of Norbert Pignol's description of Blowzabella "un group, mythique" back in 1995  :|glug

I've got a funny feeling that this might be a daft question, but were one rows made tuned to bflat?

Nick, we share a terrible weakness for the weirder side of melodeon ownership. I think I want one too...German son in law visiting soon, he's just retired so has time on his hands to look out for one ( or maybe two?) Quite like the idea of joining in with the Sally Army band....wish I spent as much time practising as I do collecting the unplayable...

"Oh, Bb...I ain't gonna play my C no more..." performed by Zydeco Force.

A Bb one row four stop is (and has been for the last 26 years) my weapon of choice for Zydeco music.
Joe Le Taxi is my main gigging band. We play Zydeco, so the Bb box gets used more than any of my other instruments.
