One Wet Afternoon & Dick CribbI first heard these two lively Australian tunes played in a set by "No Such Thing', a band from Kiama NSW. The band played them again in an Aussie tune session at last weekend's Kangaroo Valley folk festival which prompted me to sit down and learn them on the D/G box.
One Wet Afternoon was composed by a shearer named Bill Case from Mt Gambier SA. The sheep weren't shorn when their fleece was damp, so a wet afternoon was a welcome break to give the shearers' backs a rest.
All I know about Dick Cribb is that it was recorded in the 1960's from the playing of Jim & George Bennett in Gunnedah NSW, and it sounds like it may have originally been the melody to a popular song.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy something a bit different.
