I got a very useful amount of timber for recycling when a friend replaced the kitchen in his house and have been very pleased with what I've used so far.

Mind you, it did help that all the doors were fielded panels of solid mahogany!

Got to be worth a go. But there's quite a light metal that forms part of our old oven 'hood' that may service as reed material. Any more suggestions - from high tech to low tech?

Any tumble dryer "concertina" ducting/hose that could be used, (maybe several in parallel) for bellows! ;D

Any other musical instruments along these lines?
AL ;D

Back in 2003 I played an entire festival including two gigs and loads of sessions, on a spam-tin-ukulele. Using the can from the so-called-meat-substanse and a few bits from an old mandolin, I had myself a 4 string wonder. Price: about 2 euros.

;D That was my first thought for reeds, when the topic came up - but you beat us all to it by a long way! I often explain accordions to people by telling 'em that the reed blocks are "only glorified harmonicas".  ::)
