Malodeun is wonderful - the bellows don't manifest themselves in your avatar - but when we see them close it's fab!

Man, that's cheered me up no end. Let's all make our own melodeons (:)

Hallelujah!

I did get my free pint out of it

But you could have bought two pints and some nuts or crisps with the money you spent to get that one pint...  ;D

Seriously, my hat goes off to you, sir. :o

Well he did say that he wanted one "with a typewriter keyboard on the RH side" only a month ago:

Any chance you could build me an accordion with a typewriter keyboard on the RH side -querty tuning would be fine?
AL ;)

I'm not sure what you'd use for reeds...

Clock springs, cut down. Mind you, you'd have to find some old clocks from somewhere!

Clock spring would probably be too thin for most of the reeds.

I made two reeds from sheet aluminium and spring steel stock and then I gave up and used the harmonicas. It would have taken 10 times longer to make the reeds than it did to make the rest of the Malodeun.

I heard of a guy out in Australia somewhere who made concertina reeds from clock springs. Apparently his concertinas were really good. I'm pulling all this stuff out of memory so can't remember names or anything. But I think if clock springs are good enough for australian 'tinas then maybe they'd be ok for malodourun?

I remember Flaco Jimenez telling me that he and his father used to make reeds from clock springs, back in the days when spares were not so easily available.
