Sounds great - very tempting in spite of my total cack-handedness. My 60th birthday is on July 13 next year so it could be my ideal present to myself ..... ::)

I did the course in France this year and had a really great time, despite speaking no French at all at the start. I can now at least vaguely hold a conversation on the subject of accordions, albeit almost entirely unintelligible to the French themselves ;D

And the food being included is a real treat, I had some really fantastic meals there courtesy of Emmanuel's friends.

That looks too good to turn down. I'd need to research the most convenient flight from here (Cyprus) and the ongoing transport within France, but it's very tempting. I also speak pretty good French........

Newly acquired G/C Hohner Viktoria. Also Fender Jazz bass, Telecaster, Stratocaster, Epiphone Sheraton, Charvel-Jackson 00-style acoustic guitar, Danelectro 12-string and other stuff..........

This is melodeonic Paradise, fellas (though not populated with dead virgin jihadis) >:E

Converted farm on the r. Allier, centred around an orchard. One barn converted to a dance floor, the other is a hostel (bunks, last time I looked). See my weekend's post for pic of the latter

Yes, "gods" will pop by occcasionally, and they will be getting ready for "fête des Chavans" - always on the last weekend of July. Bit hard to find - Google map visit Chateau sur Allier first.

lesoncontinu/ Ch.d'Ars is inconveniently 11-14th (but right direction, 100km straight North) - but Grand bal de l'Europe starts 14th and is much closer. Did I say Paradise? Understatement!

That's even better news -  it makes available the best concentration of makers and vendors I know of. Did check date on www.leguidedesfestivals.com but rechecking I seem to have picked up last years :-[

Sorry.  Emmanuel won't have it wrong. Note that Grand Bal always follows Ch.d'Ars so will push back by a week (google confirms this). Alternatively the "volcans" festival in St Bonnet (Auvergne) is super and may be on week before, no date available yet. St Bonnet was site of last year's course ??

Yep! Great area for music; I'm going to try to go to Les Volcaniques next year if it coincides nicely with Le Son Continu. And I have a G/C box this year so I might actually get some tunes in!

There is likely to be at least a week gap in between. Though central France has many attractive things to do for a week. There are other festivals (see Trad, May edition) but we used to get to Précy-- sous-Thil in Morvan, Burgundy. Actually a week's chill in rural Burgundy is highly recommended. We met the Anost people there … I'm sure new wonders will be brewing next summer.

But Embraud farm is a must if you are anywhere near there in late July. It just gets better and better. All their kids are top musicians now ;)

Is there someone who speaks English that I can contact about how many openings there still are for this course? I want to go but simply can't commit just yet until I know our summer gigging schedule. Thanks, Dave

PS Feel free to PM so we don't hijack the thread.

Thanks, Lester. I will drop him a note. I hate to make others uncomfortable with my total ignorance of the French language. I will, after all, be the visitor there. Thanks again, Dave

I've edited the first message to make it clear that Emmanuel is ok with English.
In fact if you do go on the course you will discover that he has considerable talent in telling jokes in English.

Thanks for that, Theo.

I am putting away half my band money. Now I just have to clear our summer schedule.  :'(

Cheers,
Dave

A truly great experience, not often you can near Emmanuel, Frederic Paris, Colin Dipper and other brilliant musicians playing together in such a lovely environment. Very humbling and also hard work!
