Thanks, Guy. It is now my computer wallpaper.

Have just spotted a flowery pattern melodeon on the table next to the cooker, and also a second dog at the woman's feet.

It could be either French, Dutch, or Danish, judging by the clogs. I'd guess French.

Great pic though.

Actually there are two boxes in the background - MAD is international!  The only thing that looks out of place is the TV...

What a man! Not content with just torturing his wife with his playing, he's also wearing his cap and muddy clogs in the house. All he really needs to complete the scene would be a pipe belching out foul smelling smoke. Ah, the good old days!

Looking at the tele, I would think circa 1960's. It really is a great photo and probably a KB (Kolster Brands)

PS. Just had a thought. If that's Lester's shed.... Where's the gnome?  8)

Wonderful photo. Possibly inspired by Hogarth I have a bizarre idea for a whole series of photos depicting a gradual decline as a result of M.A.D with the final scene showing our hero (or heroine) down below being issued with a piano-accordion  >:E

Looks like a poor household but to own a telly (or even be able to rent one) in the 60s must have meant quite a decent income - the Wife has obviously given up on trying to keep the place tidy .

Interesting as if you remove the telly (which looks completely out of place) , the pic could have easily been taken 50 or more years prior to when it was.

Not poor...just a farmer who has plenty of brass but doesn't like to spend it (except on melodeons!) There are plenty like that round our way and there are farmhouse kitchens nearby that still look like that in the 21st century (although without the melodeons).

Rob, where's the second background melodeon? I've looked and looked, but with no avail.

Rob, where's the second background melodeon? I've looked and looked, but with no avail.
Near the left-hand side, standing upright on the table, end-on view, on the table behind the cup. Picture coordinates approx (0.5, 6.0). It has a floral pattern on the woodwork.

I think Edward had seen that one, Steve, but it looks as though there is another one on top of the dresser behind the man's head.

Oh - I thought it was a transistor radio, with a raised carrying handle.  :|bl

(Looks again). Seems a bit small for a melodeon.
