Poll: Tune of the Month for January 2016
« on: December 26, 2015, 11:47:37 PM »

Hi folks, happy christmas, and imminently, a happy new year to everyone! Here's this month's selection to choose from:

- Hunt the squirrel; last month's runner up (admittedly it was quite a long way behind!), and one of my favourite tunes at the moment; here it is being ably demo'ed by Gavin... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpEfk0X0Ayk

- La Guinguette - thanks Christophe; nice suggestion from one of my favourite players Norbert Pignol - I have to confess I thought a nice 2 row version of this was out of reach, but apparently not - it plays quite nicely, and as you would expect from something that Norbert writes can be played quite simply or has lots of opportunity for chords and melodic improvisation. Here we go! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpxfjUBjRhk

- Enrico - another chance for this hornpipe I think; one to add to your session tunebook. Here played by Ed Rennie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeL-qKVx0aQ

- Monks' March -  a morris dance tune from Sherborne; did you think we'd done them all? Nope, there's this fine tune:  http://lesters-tune-a-day.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/tune-115-monks-march.html

There you go folks; happy voting and happy new year!

Cheers,

Clive

Here's a link to La Guinguette - on the same page as some great instructional videos which I must get round to one day. By the way, does anyone have the Milleret Pignol books for sale?

  • In dampest Dorset, on the soggy south coast.

And usually used for the country dance "Trip to Bavaria" - round here, anyway.
