Theme of the Month for November 2015: Pick a tune for Lester
« on: November 01, 2015, 07:35:23 AM »

Last month we picked tunes from Lester's wonderful tune a day blog;

http://lesters-tune-a-day.blogspot.co.uk/p/tune-index.html

This month, as ably predicted by Anahata, pick a tune not on this list for Lester to learn - it needs to fit on a standard 2 row though!

What do you think Lester will like?

Cheers,
Clive

How about the Apples Peaches Pumpkin Pie Polka?  (:)

Thank you God for helping me get, and play the melodeon and harmonica. I am extremely grateful for these gifts. Amen.

I'm attempting to learn this tune at the moment, but it's my first attempt at 3/4 time,so I'm anticipating problems  :-\
I'd like to see it played on a 2 row please  ;)

Roscoe, old time fiddlers can explore their tunes seemingly for hours. Coming in at under two minutes is pretty restrained.

Best wishes

Here's Polish tune called the Wishing Well Waltz (called Głęboka Studzienka in Polish.) Should be playable on a normal two row.  (:)

Dear God, thank you for helping me get, and play the melodeon, and harmonica. I am extremely grateful for these gifts! Amen.

Thought I better get this in before Lester records something else and makes it ineligible :-)

A rather waltzy arrangement of Scarborough Fair, played on a 1920's 12 bass Hohner G/C melodeon. I don't use the extra basses on this, so it's perfectly playable on a standard 2 row 8 bass instrument.

Given his long association with the morris, "A Morris Dance".  From the playing of John Mason of Stow in the Wold via Andy Turner and Geckoes.  They tell us "almost certainly not a morris dance".  I think Lester will agree.

Here's a tune learnt from an abc I came across when looking for Italian tunes, although I can appreciate my rendition doesn't sound terribly Italian.
Tarantella Calabrese from an arrangement by Ed Rennie played on a Hohner four-stop-one-row in G, sounding fairly throaty.

Osborne's Mistake.  A tune I wrote for TOTM a while back

Still squeezing after all these years.
Mostly on hohners , with a couple of Dinos and a smattering of anglos - and now a Jeffries duet

Wow, quite an adventure in G!  I particularly like the set of matching pegs - I used to have a C box with plastic pipe caps slit and slipped around the stops.  Never did that on the G as I often closed them to lighten the load.  Two reps of that tune a day and you can cancel your gym membership!

Today I played the tune, Ebb and Flow, in context on a thrift store find toy melodeon:

I know this tune has been played and posted on Melnet before, but not for this theme.
