A story that ends with a video of me dancing to my own tune:
This came into my head while driving to a gig in Knaresbrough one Saturday afternoon. There was some music from Cape Verde on the Radio 3 world music programme, and some tiny part of it got processed into a whole new tune. I couldn't stop driving, nor could I trust myself to remember the tune, so Mary had to write it down at my dictation on a scrap of paper as we continued our journey. By the time we arrived at our destination there had been several revisions.

I wanted to call it The Trip To Knaresborough but found there was already a tune of that name, so as were were staying that night in Ripon, it was named The Road to Ripon.

At the time, Pig Dyke Molly were looking for a tune for a dance they used to do and wanted to revive, but nobody could remember the music, so we used this tune.

Pig Dyke no longer do that dance, but this winter Old Glory Molly adopted it for a dance called the Waltzer. As Old Glory Practise in Rumburgh Village Hall, we retitled the tune The Road to Rumburgh

Here is is, played on a 1 row C melodeon as it should be: https://youtu.be/1AVdVM5RgOU

And here is a recent video of Old Glory Molly dancing the dance. I'm the one in the rather grey shirt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pa7m2AcRKM8

Good tune Anahata, very Cape Verde-esque. I may be stealing this one.

Just sneaking in with this one in the last few hours left in January:

Wells Waltz, based on the dulcimer playing of Mollie Whittaker from Wells-next-the-Sea in Norfolk.
This is a free-lance, med-up, multi-tracked version using two melodeons and clarinet.

I just missed the January deadline in my time zone by a few minutes. The upload had started before midnight, but it was February before it was completed. I rushed through the edit trying to post before Feb. and lost part of the sound track, so it is a little chopped up.

My selection is the Staten Island Ferry Hornpipe, but the video was not made there.
