Ah yes, Paul links things together yet again.
How on earth do you get onto the subject of Hooke's law in general conversation?...... But with Paul anything was possible  ;)

Well, for an English Teacher, you're not doing bad I 'spose  ;D
Respect is given sir!

Just catching up:
Anahata, the Puddleduck Polka is superb!
It fits into my idea of a 'bonkers tune' that always appeals to me.........
thanks for that!

Most welcome. I think you and I must have a similar musical sense of humour, and yes, Greg was a bit bonkers. The book includes a number of tunes in irregular time signatures, one called Russian Roulette in 7/8 time and a key signature of F♯ A♭ E♭ (so not Russian at all, that's the Hungarian minor scale, a tune all on the black notes (works a treat on the outer rows of an English concertina, he claims), and a tune with a contextually plausible double flat in it. Not included, unfortunately, is a tune he allegedly wrote called Planxty Cecil in the key of... (oh, you'll never guess...) C Sharp.

I have done some of the less outrageous ones on YouTube, and even they aren't plain sailing on a two row.

The book is on it's way so I'll let you know about playing it on E.C. (hasn't Mary had a go?)

Anahata - yes I think we do share a musical sense of humour!
I cannot explain it, but know just listening to that I could almost feel it being absorbed, but if I give it a go it will take me ages to get it going. I'm still wrestling with the Household Brigade, which is another in the 'bonkers' category!
I think for me such tunes are very much back burner stuff but hugely enjoyable and provide a great learning process as they inevitably seem to go into nooks and crannies of the melodeon that I've never been before.

It sounds like Greg was quite a character, and to be able to write such tunes had an amazing gift.
I look forward to listening to Pete's efforts too!
cheers

In trying to find something that doesn't seem to exist- a polka where I can't predict the next two bar phrase I got frustrated on youtube and started clicking around.
Michael MacIntyre has a running joke that you can use any word to mean drunk - if you turn a noun into a past participle:
e.g I was completely trollied last night - (try it for yourselves -completely chauffered, completely trousered, completely melodeoned etc)
Well, whatever word I typed into youtube - there was a polka for it (Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Italian) - ok so far, then Breakfast, even Plonker Polka. I just couldn't miss.
EDIT - just went back to check 3 random words, and there are Ingrid Polka, Bunny Polka, Bratwurst Polka. And sadly, even a Hitler Polka.

You may want to try the Küss-mich-Polka (even with melodeon content).

Percy Brown's Polka from East Anglia

https://youtu.be/lzZx4UX0zso

learnt from Steve Dumpleton at Mendlesham last year.

I notice many of the other polkas are at fairly quick pace, but this one is a touch more leisurely and lumpy. It's about as fast as me and that box'll go I'm afraid, but it's only a bit slower than Percy himself.

Try the British American Polka. If you don't find it before your visit tomorrow I'll play you a recording I have.

There seem to be several out there with different B sections. I'm assuming from at least one of them (which has a hoe down feel to it) that the A section is the British bit, and the B section the American? They all seem beyond my skills as yet.

Perhaps I'm not calling the tune by the correct name (I'll tell me mam when I get home),maybe it's better known as The Wind.. But is it a polka?

If you choose to play it as a polka, yes; it's (usually notated) in 2/4, so would technically qualify.
