So this is my first post on Melnet...

... and a newcomer's contribution of a medley of 8 Czech polkas: https://youtu.be/zxhG7E8K4qw

According to Wikipedia, the polka originates from the 19th century Bohemia (now Czech Republic) where it still remains a popular folk music genre. I therefore found this month's theme quite inspiring! (:)

All the pieces from this medley are well-known songs. I play them on an old German melodeon in C/F (a very common tuning in Central Europe).

Another French Polka, but from Auvergne this time, and with no other name than "Polka". Played on the oldest box i have found, and it's in Bb.

And another Irish polka, one of the Ballydesmond polkas. Played on an Erica in c#d + a well timed sms-message on my Nokia...

I really like this months theme, made me learn La Roulante.

Dear God thank you for helping me get and play the melodeon and harmonica. I am extremely grateful for these gifts! Amen.

In today's video I play a Czech folk tune called Nechoď Janku Přes Polanku. I play the polka on my Accordiola Mundinger Diaton III Grand Luxe club accordion. :D

Enjoy! :D

Here's 3 Irish polkas I learnt from the Rakes several decades ago. Never fails to get the audience on their feet. Grateful thanks to Reg Hall & co for putting it out there; what a fantastic band they are - 60 years of excellent music.

Excellent! :D

Just to add my two cents (or pennies): the Czechs usually repeat the 2nd part of the verse (bars 9 to 16). The only difference is that the first time ends with the fifth and the second time ends with the root.

Cheers,
Roman
