Customs & Exiles CD
« on: April 15, 2016, 12:12:46 PM »

Shameless plug time!

Jim Sawyer (Diatonics, Hammersmith and C&E) and Tony Penneck (Diatonics, Wreckers, C&E and ex Committee Band) have recorded a CD of Morris tunes used for the Customs & Exiles morris side's repertoire. Jim is (IMHO) one of the best box players in the UK today and Tony's bass playing gives the whole thing a magical lift.

The CD is available to buy on eBay at:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Customs-Exiles-CD-/182063593565?hash=item2a63d5f85d

or by emailing the side directly on secretary.customsandexiles@gmail.com.

Here is just a quick idea of what to expect:

OK. Will take you at your word, Nigel. You planning any festival or other outings this year where we might bump into each other? Didn't see you at M and M.

Hi Mike.  I'll be at Whitby playing with the Customs & Exiles band but other than that, the (non-healing) broken leg has curtailed activities since Swanage last year.  Fingers crossed I'll be at Witney come November, as well.  Hope to catch up at some stage.  Cheers. N

I saw that actual performance at Whittlesea. (I am off camera to the right with Old Glory Molly). They were very good, dancers and band, and that bass made an amazing amount of sound from a small amplifier. I didn't know it was Tony Penneck. The
box players were good too, and there no mistaking the raucous sound of an Oakwood/Dino Baffetti Binci at full power.

So Nigel, you were the one in the wheelchair...

Yes, that was me (:) I still struggle to play standing up but hopefully that will be sorted by Whitby.  We all loved the Old Glory dances - great fun.  Sorry I should have introduced myself. N

Agree on the quality of this troupe! It's a double opportunit for fandom for me. I love Jim's playing and his videos with DTN have been inspirational for me in my playing. I saw the dancing at Warwick last year and absolutely loved it. There is just something about their dancing - a cracking side.

CD arrived today- just playing it now. Brilliant stuff! If you've not got it yet buy it. Jim's playing has such an edge to it, a real lesson in rhythm for dancing. I hadn't realized either what a major contribution the bass can make. And for non Morris aficionados like me, a real education.

Kept thinking I ought to get this, especially as Jimbo is a mate!
We had Customs and Exiles down on our Whit Tour and Jimbo and DTN together, Binci's full bore blew everyone away. An amazing wall of sound.
Anyway, clicked on the ebay link and ordered one ( if it says 'sale has ended ' , there is a re-listing option, keep clicking you'll get there!)
I'm listening now as I type - it's excellent!
A lot of common tunes, often heard in sessions, but with Jimbo's excellent playing really bring them to life. Amazing how 'ordinary' tunes played well just lift you. Tony Penneck's bass is  equally good, and never knew how good a simple melodeon/bass combination, both played extremely well, could make such an excellent sound.
Inspiring!
Right, off to listen to the rest.
You might surmise I thoroughly recommend this

More than the cost of the album is shipping to US  :o

£7.00 = cost of CD
£11.70 International Priority Shipping to United States

This is for priority shipping and I cannot change this. I would not be bothered if it took 4 weeks to get to me.

Oh that's a great shame.....  in my opinion it's well worth the price of the cd, but shipping makes it silly money.

Maybe they could make it available on-line from the likes of Bandcamp

Stephen, does that amount £11.70 include some sort of taxes, duty or whatever, or is it just the cost of postage? Otherwise, it seems to me that one of us here in England could just get it and send it over to you. I think that if it is in the usual opening plastic case, it would cost £3.15. But if it's only in a cardboard sleeve, no more than £1.33. (Under 20gms.)

Syale, if you order one I will adjust the postage accordingly. No idea why it is that much.
