gig bag for Tommy
« on: May 16, 2016, 11:24:10 PM »

I am looking for a really good gig bag for my Castagnari Tommy.  I have a hard case but it's not always ideal to lug around, and the Hohner soft case that I have (designed for an Erica) is pretty low on padding and I'd like to find something a little more hardy.  Can anyone recommend anything?  Thanks.

I should add that I'm looking for something that I can either sling over my shoulder or carry around like a backpack.

I got a nice one from acorn instruments for my Oakwood which is probably about the same size as a Tommy.
It's hard foam plastic with a softer foam plastic inner layer and velour inner lining, so quite tough overall but gentle on the instrument. Carrying handle and rucksack straps included.

Anahata got there first!  ;)
I was also about to recommend the gig bag from Acorn Instruments. Very durable and with a good chunky steel zip fastening that isn't likely to break. The outer cordura fabric is tough and seems to be water repellent, although it could always be treated with a fabric waterproofing spray available from camping and outdoors shops.

That looks perfect!  Thank you!

By chance, would it be the same bag as this one?

The Fuselli Super Pro does look very similar. The leather handle grip is a less obvious feature in common with the one I have (and makes it very comfortable to carry).

I have one of the smaller Fusellis on that page. carrying handle and shoulder strap, fits a Tommy perfectly.

Agreed - it does look very similar. Perhaps Pete (Acorn Instruments) will be along dreckly to confirm....

Hmmm Steve, you're a bit far north for using 'dreckly'  ;D

I have a slightly larger gig bag from Acorn Music for my Hascy. It is really well made and I recommend it. As Steve  says' Pete will guide you to the correct sizing.
cheers
