Mazurka la femme de marbre

Found this link. Since this Delicq Mazurka is a bit harder than some others I've tried,  it made it easier to have the tablature along with the music. It's a beautiful melody, and fully playable on a two row.

Maybe someone else will benefit from the tab.

Boîte de iazz is nice too, although it doesn't sound much like  jazz to my ear.
Guess it could...
It also sounds nice played slowly, and is fairly easy.

Hello everyone,

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to contribute my ABC notation of this tune.
There probably are some mistakes in the notation, since it was my very first own transcription of a musical score into ABC.
If you find any mistakes, please do not hesitate to point them out so I can correct it. (:)

On a side note: I've also created a midi and an ogg audio file (simple piano melody). For those of you who like to listen to the tune to get a rough feeling what it sounds like, just PM me and i'll send it to you. Or just listen to one of the many nice versions of this tune on YouTube - that will work too. ;)

Best wishes,
Fred

I transcribed this lovely tune a few months ago from the playing of Stéphane Delicq on the CD 'La Compagnie des Anges'. See ABC versions and attached PDF files below. I also have MuseScore versions if anyone would like them.

Fred - I think your ABC version is pretty good - well done! It is not an easy tune to transcribe. But in your ABC notation you need to remove the gaps between the lines, or add a % symbol, otherwise it generates an error. Also, I don't quite agree with your notation of the 4th part, although I guess it depends which original recording you listened to. There is room for 'transcriber's interpretation' here: are the 'twiddles' simply mordent-like ornaments or are they more an essential rhythmic element of the tune? I chose the latter in my transcription.

On SD's recording, he plays it in Em but it sounds an octave lower than would normally be played on a D/G box. I think his instrument was not a usual tuning? On a normal G/C box it can be played nicely in Am in the usual position.

Steve
It's been a while since I've listened carefully to this piece, but I think I play Dm chords in place of some of your F chords - I do realise this is insignificant, as they are practically the same thing, except that a Dm chord in the C section will avoid the parallel octaves between the melody and bass notes for those 3 bars.

Thanks, Pete! Yes - it's subtle stuff but I fully concur with your point about the Dm chord in the C-music avoiding the parallel octaves. Next time I have the box in my hands I will try it both ways, but I suspect the Dm chord will sound more satisfying at that point.

Thank you for the transcription Steve.

A C  chord on the opening of part B before the Em sounds good as well. I like the Am and C chord both.

To avoid parallel octaves you need to use one chord only  ;)
