Frankham Cottage
« on: May 30, 2016, 10:20:24 PM »

Here's a tune I wrote at the weekend for some friends. Great house with a view. Great company. Their kids and mine played it round the kitchen table.
I've attached the arrangement for violins, flute and clarinet (and melodeon). The youtube link is just the melodeon part - simple camera recording, no cleaning up.

Like  the 5/4 feel.. Would describing the tune as a bouree like 5/4 rhythm be off?

My son plays violin, he'll like the 5/4 rhythm, but the melody is straightforward

I've seen Bourrees in a variety of time signatures. Perhaps I was playing it faster than a waltz would work at a bal. There are plenty of experienced French dance people on melnet. Hopefully one of them will let us know. I'm just pleased that a few people have listened to it - otherwise writing tunes is a lot of effort for such a fleeting result - unless the tune catches fire of course. One day!

Sounds a good pace for a five time waltz. It would also work a tiny but slower.

I've looked hard but I can't find the dog part.
What key is the dog in? (Basset Hound in F possibly?)

The dog part is the clarinet part - a bit ruff. The clarinet player wanted the tune, but you can't keep everyone yappy.
