Tune of the Month for June 2016: Bonny Kate
« on: May 31, 2016, 10:55:26 PM »

Bonny Kate - as Lester says, an English ceilidh favourite; here demonstrated by Lester - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMve33Toyyk and here: http://lesters-tune-a-day.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/tune-75-bonny-kate.html

Cracking tune this, with a lovely rising chord sequence in it if you feel so inclined!

Enjoy,

Clive

A four stop and a two row version, both 'standard received pronunciation'.

All the best

Bill's splendid performance on the one row inspired me to give it a try on the 4 stop as well, but I was enjoying the basses on the 2 row so... like Bill, I did both, but I got my twin brother to help out for the video.

I'm sure I'm not alone in not usually being able to learn a TOTM in a month, so it's always nice when one comes along that I already know!  I really enjoyed learning this for morris (teamed up with Dorset Four Hand Reel and Portsmouth by C&E).

This version has a rising chord sequence (G-Am-Bm-C) in the A and B parts and a bass run back down again (d-c-b-a) at the end of the B section.

Nigelr, I really enjoyed that rendition, light and buoyant. I am also deeply envious of your long lean fingers....( this from an old man with fingers like short saveloys) :-\

Thanks Mike.  Likewise, yours was great (as always)  :||:

Thanks Brian.  It's not always a benefit - I do find it really easy to get tangled up! (:)

A burst of activity at the start of the month, then .... tumbleweed! Please contribute / post if you can; tune of the month works better the more contributions we have; it's not about playing it perfectly - it's just about playing and learning as you go and sharing how you get along, warts and all!

Anyway, here's mine for this month:

played on a Bb/Eb Hohner Preciosa in Eb.

Cheers,

Clive

Clive
That sounded fantastic.  Loved the bass line.   Greatly improved the commute.

Thank you - it's a nice tune, isn't it? Lends itself well to stuff like this.

Still can't believe how fat that Preciosa sounds. Sorry not to have contributed this time - too busy working at the Milleret and Pignol book. I'm jumping around book 2, but taking care to follow the instructions even if I'm not sticking to the order of exercises.
Anyway, well played.

Great contributions everyone! Clive, that video is now one of my favourites on your channel.

Here's my own version, played on a Beltuna Sara III and inspired by Ollie King's video on making basses interesting.

End of a quiet month; it's time to move onto the next tune, Nelly's Hat! Late contributions always welcome as ever; stick 'em on the end here.
