Theme of the Month for June 2016: Seasons
« on: May 31, 2016, 10:58:17 PM »

With the dawn of/imminent arrival of/oops just blinked and missed it of summer on the way, let's do a theme related to seasons. Any tune that mentions, even in the most tangential way, a season - any season, and not just summer!

Have a great summer folks (unless you live in Australia of course, in which case have a great winter!)

Cheers,

Clive

I had a go at Summertime too, before my laptop's webcam died.

This here's an old recording from last August. It is, however, a season tune: In the Good Old Summertime.

Enjoy!  ;D

Very nice Summertimes you have here.
I was also considering playing Summertime (the one by Gershwin).
But I think I'll turn to some other season now ;D

April's theme post would have done: (included 'Return of Spring') https://youtu.be/tHoFnc9eAuM

But this came to mind and seemed to fit the bill, https://youtu.be/qcnTxMfls88

Would have seemed incomplete without the words so please forgive a rare foray into song.

All the best

Here's a Playford tune:

Also discussed on another thread.

(Played on my newly-tuned Saltarelle Tramontane DGAcc accordion, expertly retuned by Theo very recently - a lovely job, Theo!)

And moving on a few months,

I posted this once before with Sheri Kershaw singing, but this is a pared down box-only version.

That Saltarelle is indeed sounding lovely, and very nicely played too!

I suppose I could have just reissued 'In fields of frost and snow' which I did last month but no I've done a more summery one. No idea why I played the last part of the second tune an extra time but maybe the dancers needed an extra bar to finish........
When I play this version in my local session it irritates my fellow musicians because it's slightly different to the version they know - but I think it's good to hear different versions; and sometimes it's just good to irritate!

Another try at Autumn Leaves here: https://youtu.be/4MIY43dy-wk

Not nearly as nice as the one played by Chris above (but it still gave me my daily dose of sweat). One can also hear that my accordion is alas in poor condition, especially for the high-pitch treble notes. To compensate a bit and also preserve the jazzy style of the song, I added a line of guitar arpeggios, trying to keep it not too instrusive.

Cheers,
Roman

That's a lovely wistful sound, Roman - some tasty guitar too!

... erm, I found this old Italian tune :-)

Here's a rearrangement of Largo, from the Winter part of Vivaldi's Four Seasons. It's a bit weak on the melodeon at its normal pace, but sped up a bit, I think it makes a pretty good, irregular, polka. It took me *ages* (well a couple of days) to even figure out what key this thing is in, because it swaps key... in the middle of the tune. Twice. Ending up back in the original key, so you don't realise what happened! So here we are, played on a G/C Van der Aa... in C *and* G. It fits fine once you get your head around that.

This is Springtime Brings On The Shearing.

Is the tune known by another name at all?

Fairly rudimentary but am happy with my progress.

Here's a recent composition of my own with a "seasons" theme. Played on a CF Sandpiper.

I had a go at Summertime too, before my laptop's webcam died.

Cannot stop listening to this.  Inspired me to have a go which hopefully I will feel confident enough to post before the end of the month, though I may need to spend some time soul searching before I can play as soulfully as you did sir!!

Thanks for your heartfelt feedback Grape. If its any consolation, I find recording myself is an angst-ridden frustration and so I've avoided buying a video camera. I'm in awe of many melodeon players whose music has been featured on melnet, but we've all got our own approach and the main thing is to keep enjoying making music. Good luck with your melodeon playing. Cheers, Ian
