Dating a 114
« on: June 02, 2016, 12:58:17 PM »

The end panels (for want of a more technical description) of HA 114 are either silver or gold. Is this an indication of their period of manufacture?

Silver ends are older than gold, but I don't know when the changes happened.

11.4... not a 10 but a 11.4.. off the scale... must be 2:00 AM

Silver is an indicator it might be the 50s  early 60s.

I have three .. a 112, 113, 114 all silver ended.

Someone has to put him out of his mysery  ;) You start by buying her a drink Brian - if that goes well then give 'er a squeeze, she'll soon let you know if its OK to polka.

Just getting me coat Theo

Sorry, but you deserved this Brian 😜 melnet is known as the domian of merciless melodeonists on some other forums! I am disapointed not to be able to add to what other members have already said, mainly because I'm still giggling.

Oh, btw, as thread starter you can change it's title. "modify" post 1 - if you like ;)
(the "lock" button is bottom left), on this page ::)

Well Richard, I found that the way forward with my latest 114 was to ease her bass end strap and give her a good rub down, she's much nicer to me now.Not sure I ought to tell her that she's older than she was letting on.as for changing the title Chris, think of the crack we'd have missed... ;)

My other melodeon's a fiddle, but one of my Hohners has six strings! I also play a very red Hawkins Bazaar in C and a generic Klingenthaler spoon bass in F.!! My other pets (played) are gobirons - Hohner Marine Band in C, Hohner Tremolo in D and a Chinese Thingy Tremolo in G.
