Tune of the Month for September 2016: Far Away
« on: September 01, 2016, 01:39:18 AM »

This month's winner, Far Away a waltz written by Pete Jung in about 1985; here's a couple of videos:

- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNMrTTVEpsA (Hector) and a version from the genius that is Frank Lee: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6J5x6vWuYOw

... and thank you playandteach, there's some PDFs of Frank's version attached to this message: http://forum.melodeon.net/index.php/topic,19207.msg233861.html#msg233861

I've had a quick google for Pete Jung; can't seem to find him. Does anyone have contact details for him please? PM me if so.

Cheers,

Clive

I thought I'd get in early this month rather than leaving it to the last few days as usual.
Here's my interpretation.  There are some choices to be made particularly between Em and G chords and it makes good use of the G and A reversals (on a 2 1/2 row G/C box).

Yup. Spot on. And not just because the box sounds great.

In two inversions in Bm. Fun and something of a challenge in parts.

All the best

'Play it on a one row please Bill....'

I haven't topped and tailed it, as it is 'unlisted', accessible by the link. Once through, no basses. The other inversion would need a note which is missing (or a fudge).

Here's my version of Far Away, for which I stole the services of my somewhat competent fiddle playing friend Mark Prescott who happened to be in town.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRBqJ5ojCEA

We've fitted it with a Larry Unger tune, a favourite of mine, Two Rivers.

Mark of course, had learned both of these 2 tunes about 30 mins before we recorded this. Played on the Castagnari Giasco I in D/G.

That's really nice. Inventive and well played on a nice sounding box.
